astrid watched the two of them from a distance as their lips met. astrid felt her heart sink in disappointment as the girl she loved kissed someone else. astrid took a deep breath, and sighed as she looked at elina.

but astrid knew that it was never meant to be. her and elina. 

because elina was always destined to be with hiccup haddock. if only astrid had met her sooner, maybe elina would like her, not hiccup. but she couldn't change anything now, and astrid watched, heartbroken as hiccup melted into elina's kiss under the stars.

elina gertrude and hiccup haddock were star-crossed lovers. astrid saw the way elina looked at hiccup like he was her world, and hiccup looked at elina like she had crafted valhalla herself. astrid watched as the two teenagers whispered sweet nothings into each other's ears as the two became a couple, and astrid simply closed her eyes and sighed.

this time, astrid didn't feel jealousy when hiccup leaned down to kiss elina on the forehead, and elina wrapped her arms around hiccup, hugging him in a tight embrace. this time, astrid didn't feel angry when hiccup linked his fingers with elina's and elina laughed at him. 

astrid walked into the hall after elina and hiccup walked in as well. she swallowed and walked towards elina and hiccup. 

"heard about the lucky couple finally getting together," astrid said, masking the heartbreak with a bright smile. elina chuckled at astrid, but astrid felt the butterflies slowly dim away as elina held astrid's hands in hers.

"thanks for being there for me, astrid," elina told astrid, and astrid only gave elina a tiny smile.

"thanks for forgiving me when i put a knife to your throat," astrid grinned in response, making hiccup chuckle.

"i love you. you're my best friend, astrid," astrid smiled at her words.

"i love you too." but now only as a friend.

and as astrid watched elina and hiccup walk away, astrid realized that she was finally free.

love is about sacrifice.

so if elina was happy with hiccup, then astrid was happy for them too.
