"ruff, tuff, watch your backs! move, fishlegs!"

"look at us! we're on dragons! all of us!" tuffnut shrieked to all the vikings in proximity, whose jaws all dropped at the sight. 

elina's face was set into cold determination. hiccup shook his head to stop himself from thinking about her. "up, let's move it!" 

hiccup yelled, "fishlegs, break it down!"

"heavily armored skull and tail made for bashing and crushing! steer clear of both! small eyes, large nostrils! relies on hearing and smell!"

hiccup watched the vikings all gasp as elina leapt off chameleon onto the red death's body. she held onto one of its spikes as she tried to search for its reflex. 

"it's too big! i can't reach it!" elina shouted at hiccup, and hiccup closed his eyes. "okay. snotlout, legs, hang in its blind spot. make some noise, keep it confused! ruff, tuff, find out if it has a shot limit! make it mad! elina, come with me."

chameleon wrapped her tail around elina, who was placed onto chameleon's back. chameleon flew towards hiccup and toothless, and as chameleon aimed blast after blast towards the red death's throat, hiccup made his way to his father.

"dad?" hiccup said timidly, and his father's glare immediately hesitated. he brought hiccup into a bone-crushing hug. 

"hiccup. i'm sorry for — for everything."

hiccup smiled. "me too."

"you don't have to go up there," stoick reminded hiccup.

"but we're vikings. it's an occupational hazard."

stoick gripped his son tightly. "i'm proud to call you my son."

hiccup's heart warmed, and he looked up at elina, who smiled back down at him. "thanks, dad."

toothless waited for him patiently, and hiccup flew back up to where elina was. "got anything yet?"

"not yet." toothless streaked across the sky, and hiccup saw the red death open its mouth. and like a hurricane, it sucked astrid and her nadder into his mouth. 

toothless shot a blast at the red death's mouth, making him stop the whirlwind. but astrid started falling. 

"astrid!" hiccup yelled as he watched his crush (or his ex-crush, he didn't really know. he was still confused) start to fall. he started diving towards astrid, but his mind had already made the calculations. 

he wasn't going to make it in time.

suddenly, elina and chameleon zoomed towards astrid, just like how they had done when they were going to the arena. but this time, it was so fast that they were a blur; and astrid got scooped up back in the air by elina, who placed astrid behind her.

"you alright, astrid?" hiccup saw elina ask, and astrid nodded, her eyes still blown wide from shock.

"you — you saved me!"

"... uh, why wouldn't i?" elina grinned cheekily, and hiccup watched in relief as astrid briefly smiled at elina as well. chameleon roared.

"oh, yeah. uh, here you go." elina dropped astrid onto the rocks, when elina's eyes caught something.

"wait. haddock!" hiccup saw his father look up to where she was flying, but it wasn't full of hatred anymore. there was admiration, and... guilt. "it has wings!"

his eyes widened. hiccup immediately got on toothless's back, and hiccup told elina, "let's see if it can use them."

the two dragons started provoking the red death. toothless aimed a strong sonic blast, causing a massive explosion while chameleon created a ring of fire around the red death, causing the ground beneath it to sink. the red death started to use his wings and hovered into the air.
