the bowl shattered at her feet. elina turned to look at hiccup in fear as the familiar pain returned back to her head again. elina groaned as hiccup whispered to her, "are you alright?"

"drago's coming," the two words made the soon-to-be chief freeze in shock. his parents didn't notice. elina nodded towards hiccup's mother and father.

"stay with them, hiccup. i'm going to confront drago." elina wouldn't take no for an answer as she climbed upon chameleon. sensing the determination in her gaze, chameleon took off into the skies, and hiccup looked at where his reckless girlfriend had made a dent through the ceiling with a nervous sigh.

elina had flown up to the air and looked around. all of a sudden, fleets of ship emerged from the mist on the horizon, and elina felt something grip her skull as if bashing her brain around her head. elina mumbled in pain, but determination overpowered it as chameleon brought her towards the fleet of ships.

all of a sudden, arrows shot towards the direction of elina and chameleon. in surprise, chameleon dodged and ducked, successfully making pass the infiltration of the arrows, but at the speed the arrows were being shot and how changewings were a rather large dragon species, elina found herself falling once more. learning from her previous mistakes, she controlled the position of her body. elina flattened herself so she could increase drag, reducing the amount of pain she had if she fell.

then, she met face to face with drago buldvist. she immediately turned towards chameleon, who was slumped and collapsed to the ground, causing elina to turn to look at her changewing in concern. "chameleon?"

chameleon didn't respond. enraged, elina tried to control her temper as she constantly reminded herself that anger was just going to confuse her thoughts and make her fighting weaker. elina pulled out a sword from her belt, but drago pulled out an axe instead, and elina knew this was going to be a losing fight.

"elina!" she heard a yell from astrid, and she quickly turned to look at astrid. they were being tied up and forced to walk the plank off the boat to drown. gritting her teeth, elina realized she had made her first mistake as drago used this to pin her down. however, elina was faster.

she ducked out of the way, sweeping his legs to make him collapse but he was evenly matched with her as well. his axe nearly brushed the tip of her neck, and elina's sword was centimeters away from piercing his heart. drago shouted and used his strength to push her off, cornering her to the walls of the ship, but elina just ran up the wall and flipped so drago was now cornered.

however, drago didn't seem worried at all. instead, he just laughed — laughed — and said, "you certainly inherited your fighting skills from me." elina continued the tight grip on her sword, but her mind started to hurt again. the butt of her sword dug into her palm.

"inherited from you? what do you mean?" elina growled.

"do you not remember, dear elina?" drago smirked, seeing that he had found her weak spot. elina snarled and pressed the tip of her blade harder against drago's neck, but then she found at least 20 people pointing their own weapons at her, and elina reluctantly released the pressure. "oh, how could i forget? your memory was wiped."

elina nearly dropped her sword. "you're a fucking creep," she growled. "how do you even know?"

"because i am the one who removed your memory, after all." drago said. the blood dripping from his neck didn't even faze him. elina's eyes widened. "bring the changewing."

chameleon? elina thought, but the changewing that emerged wasn't elina's changewing. drago's minions forced elina to look at the changewing. the changewing's eyes turned into swirling lines, making elina feel dizzy. all of a sudden, it was like the dam in her mind broke, and all her memories flew back to her like a giant tsunami that washed her away.

and elina could remember. she remembered the woman with red hair and blue eyes, looking at her with a smile as drago swept his cloak and walked away from them. please, come help me. she remembered how drago would bruise her back and arms if she didn't follow his instructions. excruciating pain. she remembered how he gave her a book of different roars and explained how dragons could speak. roars and the shrill ringing. but most of all, she remembered how drago was her father, and elina actually dropped her sword that time.

"you're — you're my father?" elina spat in disgust as if the word was acid. drago smirked at the resentment.

"i assume you remember now." drago turned, and in a blink of an eye, elina found herself pinned to the wall by drago's axe. elina breathed heavily as drago bent down so the two were looking at each other. "how did you think you know how to talk to dragons? how did you know how to fight so well?"

he laughed as if this was all some cruel joke to him. "i've been told that you and the chief's son have been... dating," he said, the last word being spat at her face. elina closed her eyes, not wanting to even look at his face.

"yeah, so? what are you gonna do about it, father?" elina said with an equal amount of venom, her eyes never leaving her father's once.

he nodded. "at least you know i require a negotiation," his father said. "that boy has not made you any less clever than before." elina growled at her father for talking about hiccup in such a way.

"shut up," she snarled, "you know nothing about him."

"silence!" he roared. elina resisted the urge to punch him in the face, still aware of the axe just inches away from killing her. "bring her in." his minions marched towards her and shoved her into a cell, locking the door. drago walked in, smart enough to not go close to the door so she wouldn't be able to sock him in the face.

"of course, you understand that my ships are headed towards the dragon sanctuary, hmm? towards your dear boy toy?" elina clenched her jaw. "good. you also understand that i can destroy all the dragons and your little boy with a snap of my fingers."

"get to the point, bludvist." elina said through her teeth.

"patience is a virtue, elina. but since you are so eager, after all... i will only not kill any of his relatives or allies for a price."

"which is?"

"you must join my side of the war. fight for my side of the battle and conquer the world, father and daughter. and if you don't..." his axe glinted in the light. "you know what is the price."

"and if i don't answer?" elina told him, her emotions conflicted. she just placed on a smirk to hide her fear.

"then, this." his minions opened the jail cell, and elina immediately used the opportunity to punch one of them in the stomach and back handed another person. she rushed towards the door to rescue the others, but apparently, drago had expected a fight to break out. as the door swung open, crowds of guards walked towards her, growling, and drago, with a flick of his wrist, ordered someone to close the door. the guards tied her wrists to the chains on the jail cell, and kept her legs chained.

drago walked towards her, and elina had never felt more afraid than she did now. her brave look was starting to falter as drago pulled out a dagger, and bent down to her height. he smirked as he slowly ran the blade down elina's cheek, causing blood to trickle down onto her clothes. elina didn't say anything, biting her tongue. she'd experienced pain worse.

"still no answer?" drago asked. "ah well." the dagger continued running down to her back, and he watched as elina squirmed in the chains as more blood dripped down to the stone floors. elina made a hiss of pain as the dagger suddenly cut into the side of her ribs. it wasn't deep enough to make her die of blood loss, but the warning was made clear.

"you have 5 minutes to decide. choose wisely, daughter."
