"HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO KILL YOU LUCY?" His voice echoed through the dark barn as I hid under the floorboards.
"I thought I killed you two years ago! How did you survive?!" His screams ringing in my ears I fought my tears and horror.
"Where the hell can she be?" A woman came in, I could see her feet between the floorboards.
"Can't you smell her blood? She has to be here somewhere." He kicked open a horse stall.
"Her blood is scattered everywhere. I don't think she's here anymore."
"Fine. Torch the place. If she is here then at least that will kill her." I clenched my fists and held my breath as I waited for them to leave. Dirt fell on my face as she walked back out the doors.
It felt as though hours had passed before I could only hear silence. In the end they must have decided to leave the barn as is. I stayed still, in fear of them hiding waiting for me. I turned my head to see a rat eating at the wood. I bit my lip in hopes of not screaming. After it finished eating its way through the wood and crawled above me, I heard a slam.
"SHE'S NOT HERE!" The womans voice screamed.
"FINE!" I heard scraping before I watched the door swing shut. I turned my head and saw the crawl space next to me, I crawled as slow and quiet as I could manage till I saw an opening covered with grass.
"She has to be in there. I know her scent more then anything." I swung my hand over my mouth as I heard my fiance speaking.
"Obviously she's not!" I peered between the blades of grass and saw the man from two years ago hit my fiance, Tom, in the face. "IF she was she'd have come out by now!" He struck Tom again.
"P-Please.. I can smell her in there!" He cried holding his face.
"You're lucky to have me looking out for you. As a wolf you have no reason to be with that... thing." He shuddered looking down to Tom.
"Yes sir. I know sir."
"Tommy, listen.." He sighed then wrapped his arm around Toms shoulder. "You're my wifes little brother so I'll cut you some slack. Sniff her out so we can kill the scum of this world and we'll all be a lot more happy. Those creatures are the reason you're suffering. The reason we're all suffering."
"I already told you, she's in the barn. I can't smell her anywhere else."
"Does she own anything that can mask her scent?" The woman walked over and my heart dropped when I realized she was my birthmother.
"N-no! I never seen her at the market once, she knows that kind of magic is illegal."
"Then she must be here somewhere. Come on, lets search one more time." She rolled her eyes and started walking towards the doors of the barn.
I felt a pain in my side, I looked and saw a rat attempting to chew on my wound. I grabbed it and ripped it's head off pouring it's blood all over my body, at least wherever I could manage. I looked outside to see the sun had set completely. I turned to see that man holding onto Tom as they walked to the door of the barn. I took a deep breath and crawled out and ran as fast as I could, using the night and tall grass as my cover.
Using the blood of the rat as my only scent cover. As the air felt to burn in my lung I grabbed the bottle from my pocket and exhaled into it, then burning it with the powers my adoptive parents bestowed onto me. I repeated the process until the sun started coming back up. I looked around for possible shelter and settled on the nook of a tree. I burned my breath in the bottle one last time before entering the tree and placing a protection spell around base of the tree.
