--Hazels POV--
"Hazel Marie Snow. You are chosen to take part in the next battle. You have reached the age of maturity and you have been trained for this moment. Congratulations." The soldier said with a blank expression.
"Thank you sir. I'll see you first thing in the morning." I saluted fighting my smile.
"Get some rest, you'll need it. We depart at day break." He saluted back before leaving.
"Oh my god! Finally!" Eva squealed silently as he walked out the door.
"Shh, he might hear you." I bit my lip and tried to contain my excitement with little success.
"I bet this is so bitter sweet for you isn't it?" Lynn asked laying on her bed.
"It really is. I've been waiting for eight years.. I'll finally be able to kill that son of a bitch who killed the people of my village." I clenched my fists and fought the tears building. I've worked continuously to build my strength so I can get my revenge.
"We better get you to sleep." Eva winked as she grabbed my arm and dragged me to my bed.
"I'm going to miss it here, but I'm excited to get the hell out of here." I chuckled as I sat down.
"We all are. We'll miss you." Eva squeezed my arm then kissed my cheek.
"Relax. You two haven't even dated for a full week. Didn't you two agree to break up before one of you gets shipped out anyways?" Lynn rolled her eyes.
"Oh.. I kinda forgot about that.." Lynn let go of my arm and sat next to me.
"I didn't.. but I was afraid this was going to happen. Three years of flirting, one week of dating and we have to say goodbye." I sighed and laid down under the blanket.
"I don't think it's goodbye.. but I do think it's a see you later. Don't forget to write me." She kissed my forhead before standing and getting on the top bunk.
"I'd never forget to write the sexiest woman alive." I smirked.
"Shut up." Lynn scoffed before she turned out the light.
-
"We have about half an hour until we get to the capital." The commander, Mark, said as I and a few other women continued to run behind his truck. He hated to be called by his last name so it was just always Mark.
"I think we should stop and give them a break. They've been running for almost two hours now, they're carrying their luggage too." The driver said.
"Are you ladies getting tired?" He shouted.
"Sir, no sir." We harmonized. I, of course, was lying. I was exhausted, my excitement from the night before didn't let me get the sleep I wanted. I dreamt of shoving a knife into that assholes throat since I watched him kill my loved ones and that dream is only coming closer and closer.
"Keep it up!" He screamed snapping me from my thoughts. I shook off my exhaustion and fueled my energy with my crave for revenge and ran as fast and far as I was expected.
-
"That was a terrible run. If it wasn't so cold out, I would have been fine." One of the woman said dropping her bag to her feet.
"Tell me about it. How are you feeling Hazel?" Another woman from my bunk asked sitting on the ground panting.
"I'm okay. I just need some water." I held my bag on my back and walked to the water fountain.
"I think we need to get paid more for this. They never said anything about having to run all the way here." One of the guys said dropping to his knees.
