"Have a good day sir!" I called to the businessman that I just served a mocha to. He didn't reply, but only grumbled as he walked out. All this Starbucks ever got was grumpy customers and Karens. It would be nice to have some change. There was one customer that I always liked seeing though. She was respectful, funny, and very kind.

"Excuse me? Are you even paying attention at work?" A high-pitched voice broke me from my thoughts, so I looked over the counter to see another Karen. Oh great, here we go. "YOU got my order wrong! I specifically asked for THREE shots of pumpkin, NOT two!"

"I'm sorry ma'am, would you like me to fix that for you?" I asked as nicely as possible.

"NO!! What I would like you to do is go get your manager so I can speak to him about his TERRIBLE employees! You know what!? Actually, don't look on Yelp or Facebook, because I WILL be telling EVERYBODY about this!!" With that little rant, she whipped her iced latte at me as hard as she possibly could. It hit me directly in the face and dripped down to my uniform. Seriously? I just had this washed!

"Damn it." I muttered under my breath. I tried to pull some paper towels from the dispenser, but it was empty, which only angered me further, but I kept calm and collected.

"That seemed intense." I heard the sweet voice I had wanted to hear all day. I turned around, my face and uniform still dripping in coffee. (Y/N) was now standing at the counter with a slight smile on her face. I sighed and leaned against the counter, resting my chin on my hand.

"That's the third Karen today. But it's the first time one has thrown their iced latte at me." I explained wearily as (Y/N) took a napkin from the side table and handed it to me. "Thanks." I dragged the napkin across my face, then threw it in the trash barrel.

"Thank God I work a position where I don't have to deal with angry customers." She laughed sweetly. I chuckled in reply. That's right, I remember, (Y/N) is an artist that works about a 5 minutes walk from here. She worked upstairs though, so she didn't deal directly with customers.

"Lucky you. You have a little bit of paint on your nose." I pointed out with a smile. She laughed, then scratched it off.

"I was painting a lakeside mountain scene for a customer." She explained before cleaning off her nail. "Could I just get the usual please?"

"Of course!" I whipped around and started to prepare the drink she usually ordered, (Y/F/D). It only took about a minute to make, so when it was finished, I popped the lid on it and slid it to her. She chuckled and swiftly caught it. She already had her debit card in her other hand, but I just waved it off.

"You're the first good customer today. I think you deserve a free drink." I proudly said. She smiled and blushed in reply, then took a sip.

"Oh thank you! The drink is amazing, as always. Are you sure you don't want me to pay?" I shook my head and smiled back at her. She stuffed her debit card back into her wallet and shoved the wallet into her jacket pocket. With that, she waved to me and walked out of the cafe. I pursed my lips and scratched my neck. She was way out of my league, there was no question there.
