Adam

I collapsed on the bed and stared at the dirt ceiling. Peripheral vision let me know where the others were, spread out in various places. Bash and Jason trying to sleep and ultimately failing. Ty sitting in the corner with his knees to his chest. He was rocking himself. Tyler was sitting on a bed against the wall going off into space, thinking about god knows what. Then there was me. Boring and plain me. Staring at a ceiling with my mind slowly falling into chaos and despair. I shivered. I heard a yell. A scream. Whoever made it was in pain. Tyler looked alerted. Jason, Bash, and I shot up. Ty stopped rocking himself. We all ran to the ladders to see what was up, Jason flying in the lead. We rushed to the back of the house. A cliff. And something else. I froze.

Lying in front of us was a jumbled up mess of a person who used to be alive. Ant. AntVenom. An old friend. His body was even worse.

He was lying with an arm over his chest and the other stretched out to the side. His hollow eyes were looking at the sky. He was covered in stab wounds and his throat was slit. One leg was dangling off the edge of the cliff and the other’s knee was bent up so it looked like he was lying there normally. He wasn’t.

“O-oh my god.” Ty stuttered.

I looked at the others. Jason was in pure disbelief while Ty fell to his knees. Tyler covered his mouth with his hands and his eyes watered. Bash turned away and looked like he was going to throw up. I backed up. One step. Another. Another. Until I was a yard or two behind them. The smell started to get to me. I felt dizzy. My friend was just murdered. I tripped backwards and fell. I was too dazed to say anything. So I just sat there. I heard rustling of the bushes from behind me. Seto appeared. He froze.

“N-no…” Seto ran up to the body, his cape flying behind him, “No, no, no, no, no…” he went down to the body and held it in his arms.

“Hey, I heard yelling. Everyone okay?” Jordan had gone outside earlier too have a look around. His eyes widened. They had never done that. He had always been calm and level headed. This took him off guard. It killed him. Jordan sprinted up to Ant’s mess of a body and stole it from Seto. He cradled it in his arms and started to cry.

“Please...you can’t be dead.” Jordan was gone. He was replaced by a weak, sobbing mess. A mess who now swore to take revenge on whoever killed Ant.

I stared at them. I was a watcher. A witness. Nothing else. I couldn’t do anything. I had to just sit there as stuff unfolded. Ty stood up.

“We should investigate,” Ty stated blankly, “His body- I mean.”

“Yeah…” Seto sniffed and let his voice travel back to normal, “We should.”

“Seto and I will look at the actual body, you guys look around to find clues or evidence,” Jordan’s voice had lost emotions.

I got up and looked around. I still couldn’t believe this happened. That I let it happen. I was lost in my thoughts and I tripped over something.

“Ah!” I panicked. I sat up and looked for what tripped me. What is that…? I looked at a pool of blood that lead to a knife in the middle.  It was obvious that it had been used. It was Ant’s death weapon. How did I miss it? I wasn’t focused. I crawled over to the knife and picked it up. I sudden wave of being watched washed over me. Someone was there. Someone was watching. I abruptly stood up and ran back to the cliff.

“G-guys!” I sprinted up to them, out of breath. Only Ty, Seto, Jordan, and Jason remained near the body. I noticed that only Jordan and Seto looked at the body, “I found the knife! The knife he- it- stabbed him with!” I held it up to show them. I was drenched in different shades of blood. So was my hand.

“We found some stuff too...When we regroup I will explain everything.” Seto stood up.

“We should take him inside. Put him on a bed. Let him rest.” Jordan stood up with him. Seto nodded.

“S-should we...tell...Kennan?” The thought popped into my mind suddenly.

“No,” Ty spoke up, he crossed his arms, “For all we know, she could be the one who killed him.”

“I think we should,” I looked at the voice, “She said she was on our side, right? She should know.” It was Jordan.
