I woke up with a start. I noticed three things. One, it stopped raining. Two, Jordan was staring blankly at the forest around us like he was depressed. Three, Kennan was sitting next to Adam under the light blue gumdrop they had claimed. I sat up and Jordan immediately went back into a calm and cool pose.
“Sup,” he asked me. I gazed at him with a questioning look. Ok then, that’s totally normal. I looked over to Kennan to see that Ty had taken her place and she was gone. Was I just imagining that? I shook my head to clear it.
“Right, so today we’re gonna go get Seto and Ant.” Jordan casually stood up, stretched, and walked over to the others to rally them. I noticed that Adam looked like he was gonna pass out from tired. I decided to hover over to him.
“Dude, you look like you’ve been hit by a truck,” I said to him.
“Thanks…” Adam stretched and got up, “I didn’t sleep last night.”
“Why not?”
“Um...I’ll explain to everyone as soon as we get in a group.” Adam walked over to where the others were talking about getting to the peppermint base, which is apparently what we’re calling it now. I hovered just above Bash’s and Tyler’s shoulders.
“Ah!” Tyler looked up.
“What?” I asked.
“Oh, I thought you were, like, a mob or something.”Tyler explained.
“Ok, anyway,” Jordan focused the topic back onto the base.
After a long and boring conversation, Adam finally broke in.
“So...I have something to say,” Adam started.
“The floor is yours,” Jordan let him join in.
“Kay, so, you know how we don’t trust Kennan because she may or may not be the King and she’s kinda not telling us anything?” he asked us.
“Well...yeah.” Bash replied.
“Um…” he hesitated, “She visited me last night.”
“What?!” Ty practically screamed.
“And she talked to me about this...place.” Adam didn’t react to Ty.
“Please tell me she told you who the King is.” Jordan looked anxious to know.
“No…” Adam sighed, “but, she did tell me why she couldn’t, along with some other extremely helpful things.” Adam regained his confidence.
“Well, tell us,”Jordan grew impatient.
“Because the King would kill her.” Adam explained.
“WHAT?” Tyler exclaimed.
“That’s what she told me. If she told us about who he is, he’d kill her.”
“Ok, can you explain why she doesn’t know who she is? Like, you know Notch’s sister?” Ty was slightly agitated.
“Can you guys think of the week before you were taken here?” Adam asked us.
I began to think. Then I realized he was legit. I couldn’t think of it, but when I tried my head would pound. Ow...
“Whenever I think about it my head hurts.” I explained.
“Exactly, the King wiped your memory from that time so that you don’t know who it is.” Adam told us.
“Isn’t that just perfect.” Ty said crossly.
“So, she’s not the King?” Bash asked.
“Nope! Also, I’m pretty sure if she was the King we would be calling it ‘Queen’.” Adam said lightly, trying to ease the mood.
“Lovely talk and all, but we should get going,” Jordan started to push us along, “The base is a bit farther up this way, if we rush it. we’ll be there by sundown. Sundown already? I looked up and saw that the sun was almost setting already. I guess we were talking for a while.
After a really long time of walking in the gumdrop forest, the gumdrops started to be replaced with peppermint sticks.
“This is pretty damn cool.” Bash was saying.
There was a rustle of bushes in front of us. Then the bush started glowing light purple and it was thrown upward.
“Ah!” I looked next to me to see Jordan being toppled by some dude in a cape.
“Wait...Jordan? Thank god you're back we were getting kinda worried.” The caped person got off of Jordan and helped him stand up.
“Thanks for the reflex test.” Jordan replied, dusting himself off.
The caped guy looked up at us and started smiling, “Good, you brought the others. We should go meet up with Ant now.”
I didn’t recognize him for a second. Wait a second...Seto?
