Jordan
My mind was going nuts. It felt like poison. Venom seeping into my brain until the world went dizzy and I couldn’t even walk straight. I felt terrible. I sat looking out at the picture perfect view over the cliff. We had buried Ant after the other four had gone off with Kennan. I looked like shit. I know I did. But I still didn’t care. I felt myself trembling the more I tried to forget. My body wouldn't let me. And for a second I thought about jumping off the cliff. Onto the ground below, and I could meet Ant there. We could run to the ends of the earth. I wanted to. Then I felt something.
“You okay?” Seto sat next to me, “I know you’re not...I wish we could leave, and leave this behind us.” Seto paused, “But, we have to keep strong. For the people we leave behind, we have to tell other people about this and save more from coming into the trap. D-do you...remember how you got here?” Seto asked.
“No, I tried to remember, I couldn’t. But I can remember about a week before that.” I felt better to be talking now,
“That’s what I thought,” Seto paused again, “I found something on his body, I didn’t get a chance to tell the others. Here,” Seto handed me a wrinkled piece of paper.
It read:
Seto didn’t listen or ask, now I am gone. Jordan didn’t stay and help, I cannot think. Bash is weak and scared, I cannot see. Kennan lied to keep a secret, I cannot move. Adam, Ty, Jason, and Tyler aren’t here, now I am dead. I can’t say who I thought it was.
I flinched and dropped the letter. Seto picked it up with his magic.
“What did it say?” Seto asked, clearly not reading it before hand.
“I-I...it…” I couldn't find my words.
Seto skimmed it. His face becoming more and more concerned looking with each second.
“How...Ant couldn’t have written this. I don’t think he knew he was going to die. You know he doesn’t think this about us...right?” Seto looked at me.
“But...yeah, I know,” I stared at the letter, “The King wrote it then…”
“Most likely, we were already pretty sure that he was the one who killed Ant. Hell, we don’t even know if the King is a he.” Seto got angry towards the end of the sentence, “We have no leads! We have- we have...nothing,” Seto looked defeated.
“Bash should be back soon with the food,” I stood up and helped Seto, “Your magic is still faltering?”
“Yeah…” Seto turned and went back to the shack.
I looked out at the view again. The sun was setting now. The other four were gone to get more help and kill the King. What could I do? Nothing. My cool demeanor was gone. I was a shriveled up mess of my former self. I looked at my hands and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath. I stood up straighter and forced myself to look as careless as the old me. It was harder than before. I crossed my arms, trying to salvage any part of the old me still left. I wasn’t going to let the King win. I wasn’t going to let him get away with killing Ant. Rage grew inside me. Towards the King. Ant knew who it was. I was going to find out.
I turned around and marched off to Bash and Seto. Revenge. That’s what I wanted. For Ant. I was furious. And the King was going to know.
