Chapter 142
ShyAnne's POV
*One Week Later*
"Oh, it's a happy day." Andy sang as he walked into my hospital room.
"And why would that be?" I smirked at him, even though I knew the exact reason.
"Not only is my beautiful wife healed and coming home, so is my son." He said with a beaming smile. The doctor's gave me the okay to go home, and Carter's car seat test is today. I had been doing PT all week and was able to slowly walk now. I still have exercises to do at home to gain back my full strength.
"So, what outfit did you pick for Carter's going home outfit?" I asked. Andy set the backpack he was carrying on the chair and pulled out a small black piece of cloth. In white letters, it read "Daddy's Little Rockstar". There was a white star in the middle of the words.
"Awh, wasn't that Elijah's?" I asked.
"Yeah, it was the smallest thing I could find." He chuckled.
"Well I think it's perfect." I smiled. He put the onesie back in his backpack and put it back on. He left the room to go check me out so I didn't have to walk as much. He came back and helped me to the NICU. Before Carter's car seat test, we decided to go see Chloe. We geared up and went into the NCIU, sitting around her bassinet. She recently had to restart her weaning process off the vent because her lungs are still not developed enough, just like when Elijah was born.
After visiting with Chloe, we had a nurse lead us to the room where the car seat test was being conducted. Andy placed the car seat on the floor and the nurse set Carter into the seat, starting the timer.
"You're mommy's little man, you can do it." I cheered him on. The car seat test is always the longest hour of my life. Finally, the timer went off, Andy and I cheering. Andy scooped him up and held him close.
"Two down, one to go." He said with a huge smile, kissing Carter's forehead. Andy passed Carter to me and I held him tight, a few tears escaping my eyes.
"Oh my baby boy." I cooed. I held him while the nurse disconnected all the wires and tubes he still had on him. I put him in his car seat and strapped him in. We walked up to the front desk and checked him out. I sat in a waiting room chair with Carter while Andy pulled the car around. Andy grabbed the car seat from me and strapped it into the car. I tried to get myself into the car but it was too high for the little bit of strength I had. Once Andy had Carter secure, he helped me into the car and buckled my seatbelt for me.
"I could've put my own seatbelt on." I said with a shy smile.
"Yes but you're my queen and you shouldn't need to lift a single finger." He said, kissing my forehead. He got in on his side and drove the three of us home, holding my hand the whole way. He pulled into the driveway and came around to my side. He helped me out of the car before going to the backseat and pulling Carter's car seat out of the car. Andy walked with me up to the door and opened the front door.
"MOMMY!" The twins screamed as soon as they saw me. They rushed me and clinged onto my legs.
"Hi babies!" I said, ruffling their hair. "Let go so I can get to the couch and properly give you love." I told them and they stepped back. I slowly made my way to the couch and they jumped up with me, their little arms wrapped around my neck and shoulders. I wrapped my arms around them and kissed each of their foreheads.
"Oh god, I missed you guys so much. I missed home." I said, looking up at Andy with a smile. I then looked over at his parents.
"Thank you for everything you guys have done these past few months." I told them.
"We're just so glad you're home and okay." His mom said.
"Do you guys want to meet your little brother?" Andy asked and the twins nodded. "Alright sit on the couch." He said and they sat on either side of me. Andy sat on the coffee table and put Carter's car seat on the ground. He pulled him out and held him in his arms. "This is your little brother Carter. You have one more sister, Chloe, who's still in the hospital getting better. She'll be home soon." He explained to them.
"Hold." Eliza said, stretching out her arms towards Carter.
"Alright, do you remember how you need to hold your arms?" He asked and she nodded, getting her arms into the proper position. He got his mom to hand him a pillow and put it on her lap. He placed Carter softly in her arms and she instantly smiled.
"Brodur." She said, causing the adults to laugh.
"Yes, that's your little brother." I told her. Andy snapped a few pictures before Elijah began to get impatient for his turn. Andy had Elijah form his arms correctly, put the pillow on his lap, and then put Carter in his arms. He took a few more pictures, including one with all three of them. Lastly, he got Callie and placed her in Eliza's arms and took a picture of the four of them. I took Callie from Eliza and Andy took Carter from Elijah, passing Carter to his parents. I smiled as I looked around the room at my family. It feels good to finally be home. Now, we just need Chloe home and well and we'll be complete.
