(Photo is the sunset out my living room window. Sometimes we have a little owl sitting in the trees but unfortunately he wasn't there this time.)
(Also, slight gore warning in the first paragraph)-
Max tossed and turned uncomfortably in her sleep. She suddenly blinked awake and looked around. She was laying on Chloe's bed. The morning light drifted across the room and Max sighed happily. Chloe sat up and smiled at her. Lighting a blunt to smoke. She reached over with her free hand and brushed Max's cheek softly. There was a loud and hoarse caw and Max looked up at the window to see a Raven sitting on the sill. It looked at her and tilted its head, observing her. She was about to ask Chloe why the Raven was in her room when it flew over and landed on Max's side. Max looked up at Chloe in question again but Chloe didn't seem to have noticed it. The Raven cawed again and Max was about to shoo it away when it pecked hard at her side. Max yelped and tried to shove it off but it kept pecking and pecking. Max screamed for Chloe to help but she ignored the Raven still brushing her fingers over Max's cheek. Max tried to move but she was stuck to the bed. She looked down and screamed louder as the Raven plucked out a string of her intestines.
Max jolted awake in her dorm. Her heart was beating fast and tears stained her cheeks. She pulled her blanket off to look at her side and sighed in relief. She was fine. No injuries. No blood. Just skin. She was exhausted. All she wanted was to sleep some more so she laid back down and closed her eyes, but she just knew the Raven would be waiting for her. To torture her again. She sat up and looked around her dorm. She was terrified to sleep. She wracked her brain for an idea of what to do and then an idea popped into her head like an angelic ray of sun.
Rachel.
Rachel's room was just down the hall. She had told Max that if she ever needed anything she was there. No matter the time or the severity of the situation. Max swung out of bed and grabbed an extra blanket from her futon.
She peeked out into the dark hall. It was empty and quite eerie. She tiptoed down the hall to Rachel's door and lifted her hand to knock, but she hesitated. What if Rachel was asleep? Max would hate to wake her over a bad dream. It was pretty late after all. But before she could second guess herself she heard a laugh and a creak of bed springs. Max sighed in relief. Rachel was awake.
Max knocked softly on the door so she wouldn't wake the rest of the dorms and silence followed. She waited a few seconds and knocked again.
"Uh. Just a second." Rachel said from the other side of the door.
Some inaudible whispering followed and Max panicked for a second. Rachel wasn't alone. The door creaked open slowly and Rachel peeked her head out into the hall.
"Hey Max!" Rachel said cheerily. "What's up?"
"Oh, I.. uh. Sorry to bother you.. I just. I know you said if I ever needed anything.."
Rachel furrowed her brow in concern.
"You alright Max?" She asked.
Max hesitated. All the horrible memories of her dream came rushing back to her and she shook her head.
"Okay.. um. Just a second." Rachel said, closing the door.
There was more hushed whispering and the door started to creak open slowly.
"Hey Rachel... the door.." Max said awkwardly.
"Max?" Chloe asked from inside the room.
"Chloe?" Max asked, craning to the side to look in.
Chloe was standing in the middle of the room holding what looked like a leather dog harness in one hand. Max furrowed her brows.
"What's that?" Max asked.
