(Absolutely terrible picture quality. But this is a butterfly I have on my wall. It's kind of like my life is strange shrine. Lol. My string lights were reflecting off of it in just the right way. I was totally vibing and just snapped a pic.)

Max sat on her bed staring out the window as rain drops fell gently. Indie music played softly on her radio and she picked up her phone to look at the open group text from Rachel and Chloe.

C: Max

R: Max, you okay?

C: we haven't heard from u all day

Max started to type and then deleted it. The truth was. She was not okay and she didn't know why. She didn't want to worry Chloe and Rachel but at the same time wanted them there with her. She felt tired and bored but also like she didn't want to do anything. Chloe had told Max to bother them whenever she felt like this but she hated bringing Rachel and Chloe into her long list of problems. It wasn't fair. She had saved them. That was that. They didn't need the baggage attached.

There was a knock on her door and Max got up. She took a deep breath and opened the door, sighing in relief when she saw Rachel and Chloe.

"How did you two get in here?" Max asked in confusion, remembering the curfew.

The dorms had a strict policy on outside visitors, especially after hours. Chloe scoffed at the question and walked inside Max's room making a beeline for the futon. Rachel smiled sheepishly and shrugged, following Chloe and taking a seat next to her.

"Max, whats going on?" Chloe asked seriously.

"I dunno." Max said, running her hand down her face.

Rachel watched her in that way that made her feel like she was the only thing that mattered. As if she was giving Max 110% of her attention, and Max almost broke because of it.

"Max, somethings not right." Rachel said. "You know you can talk to us. Right?"

"Yeah, I know. I just hate to bring you into it." Max said.

"Dude, you really think we don't want to be dragged into it? We fucking made a promise. All of us. We're here for each other no matter what." Chloe said seriously.

"Yeah, I know." Max said.

"So, whats up then?" Rachel asked, watching Max again.

"I just feel.... bleh." Max said.

"Bleh?" Chloe questioned.

"Bleh." Max answered.

"Been there. Feeling bleh is a bitch." Chloe said.

"Agreed." Rachel said. "Is there anything we can do to make you feel less bleh?"

Max laughed.

"I dunno." She said.

"Hmmm.. Chloe, any ideas?" Rachel asked.

"Uhh... smoke weed?" Chloe suggested.

Rachel shook her head.

"That won't do..." She glanced around the room as if looking for an idea and her eyes landed on her bracelet that was on Chloe's wrist. "Oh, I know. Whenever I get like this I like to look at the stars. It reminds me that theres so much more to life, so much more beauty out there that we almost never see."

"Well, unfortunately it's raining." Chloe said, pointing out the window.

Rachel thought for a moment.

"My star projector!" She said triumphantly.

"What about it?" Chloe asked.

"Is it still in the junkyard shack?" Rachel asked.

"Yeah, pretty sure." Chloe said.

"Okay, up Max. We're going to the junkyard. Grab a jacket and maybe a blanket." Rachel said.

Chloe jumped up excitedly.

"Yeah Max! Come on, it'll be fun!"

Max shrugged and grabbed her favorite sweatshirt and a blanket before following Rachel and Chloe to the truck.

A short drive later they were picking their way through the junkyard to the old shack they had claimed as a base. Once inside Rachel searched around and found an old flashlight. Max failed to see how it would make things better. But once Rachel flicked it on she gasped in surprise as it lit up the roof of the shack with hundreds of tiny stars bathed in purple and blue light.

"Wowser." Max said.

"Come on. Let's sit." Rachel said.

They all squeezed together on the bench they had constructed from and old plank and Max threw her blanket over the three of them. They enjoyed the stars in silence, listening to the raindrops on the metal roof for several minutes before Rachel spoke up.

"I know it can be difficult to ask for help. But you know you can always talk to us Max. You're not weighing us down with your problems or anything like that. We want to be here for you. No matter what."

"Yeah... but." Max said.

"But what?" Chloe asked when Max didn't continue.

"You feel like we're obligated to listen because you saved us. Don't you?" Rachel said.

Max nodded.

"Fuck Max." Chloe said. "You know that's never the case. Right?"

Max shrugged.

"Isn't it though?" She asked.

"God no." Chloe said. "Powers or not, we're here and we care Max."

"Think about it this way Max." Rachel said. "We don't have powers. We didn't save your life, so, do you still care for us?"

"Of course I do!" Max said. "You both mean the absolute world to me."

"Exactly." Rachel said.

Max smiled.

"Well, even if you don't have powers. You still did kind of save my life." Max said. "I was stuck in that hellish time scape and I wanted to give up. So bad. But I kept going, for you Chloe, and then, when everything was back but still wrong I went further to save you Rachel. If it weren't for both of you, I would have just given up, been stuck in limbo forever."

They all looked up at the stars in silence, taking in Max's words.

"Well, I'm glad you decided to go all the way back to save me." Rachel said. "You could have stopped at just Chloe. But instead, you risked loosing her to save me, a stranger you had never met, too."

"Stranger or not, I felt like I knew you." Max said. "I don't know how to explain it. But there was just something about you... and now look at us. Best decision I've ever made."

Chloe and Rachel smiled at her, so totally in love with their shy little nerd. They would do anything for her.
