Katsuki Bakugo was mean. He was a bully. And he was a brat. Anyone who met him very well might have their moods soured by his presence.

How had Izuku been able to handle it? Being told that he was a coward, a loser, a quirkless nobody. He was essentially powerless against the powerful Bakugo. All throughout their childhood, Bakugo took advantage of his quirk and pummeled Izuku to a painful submission. His quirk was creating grenade-like explosions in the palm of his hand due to the chemical compound of his sweat. And alongside his smarts, made him the perfect candidate for UA.

But what about Izuku? How could someone like him get into UA? From what everyone understood, Izuku had no quirk. Even if that weren't true, no one else knew such a thing.

In reality, it made perfect sense why Izuku got that message illuminating his room:
"Young Man, you too can be a hero."

He was the kindest, he had compassion, and he was analytical. He'd been studying heroes his whole life, like his life depended on it. He was going to be a hero!

A hero! Yes! It was all Izuku wanted. It scared his mom Inko half to death, his long rants about how All Might was the greatest, that he wanted to be All Might (maybe even better!). He wanted to be someone's hero, someone's idol. All Might made it look so easy.

But there was so much more to it than that. Especially when he inherited All Might's quirk, One For All. That one interaction, where All Might witnessed Izuku saving his friends life from a terrible villain. He showed tenacity, strength, and a compassion that All Might was looking for in a protégé.

With the ingestion of All Might's hair, it solidified Izuku's story. He was going to be a hero. He was going to be the next All Might. He worked on his new quirk constantly, considering it wasn't well received by his frail body. By the time he cemented himself in UA, he had lots of power over One For All, and was stronger than ever. Maybe he was even compatible to fight Bakugo. Maybe even win.

Katsuki Bakugo was also meant to be a hero. His powerful quirk meant he'd be a top hero, as well as his intelligence and physique. The teenager was a brilliant example of everything a hero should be, if you look past his temperament and aggressive personality. His personality always got him in trouble, and wasn't the most likable thing about him, but it was what made Bakugo stand out. To everyone.

Izuku and Katsuki were not meant to be by any means. By any means. Izuku always wanted to be 'Kacchan's friend, as he lightheartedly referred to Bakugo. However Bakugo was closed off. The only thing important to him was being the best, and smashing anyone who got in the way of that. Especially that bastard Deku. Luckily, he didn't think he'd run into Izuku when he was permitted to go to UA.

So it was no surprise when Katsuki realized Izuku was in UA with him that he'd bristled. He was even meaner, because now he had competition. Izuku was his enemy. His rival. Even when it felt one-sided, because Izuku was reaching out for support in Bakugo. Bakugo was not having it. Why would he? That damn Deku ruined his whole plans. He now had to show the green-haired idiot up. He was constantly trying to outdo himself just so he could outshine Izuku. It was exhausting. And it always resulted in one of them getting gravely injured.

Not to mention other well-preforming students like Shoto Todoroki and Momo Yaoyarozu threatening his climb to the top, and boy did that make things wore.

But regardless of all of this, UA was indeed perfect for the two. They developed their skills, Izuku was getting stronger in his usage of One For All (much to Bakugo's dismay— what kind of quirk did the idiot have in the first place?!) and Bakugo was becoming an unstoppable force. Sure, he could work on his personality some, because it wasn't the most hero-like, but he was successful all around.

Besides, what's Katsuki Bakugo without a little fire?

Their mentor and teacher, Shota Aizawa, better known as pro-hero Eraserhead, was teaching the whole class of 1-A lessons they would never forget. It was foundational in the way everyone held themselves. But it really didn't stick much with Katsuki. He had his own agenda.

The boys didn't spend much time together besides when Bakugo challenged Midoriya to a fight. It had been all fine and dandy at first, with Izuku being injured and overall beaten. Katsuki wanted to solidify his spot above Izuku. But not before long, Izuku had been able to defend his own pretty well against Katsuki. It was increasingly pissing off Katsuki, and his anger drove the both of them even further apart.

By this point, they both had well established friend groups. Well, maybe Bakugo wouldn't call them that, more like stupid extras that won't leave him alone, however, they really were friends.

Izuku was blossoming. His hard work wasn't going unnoticed. Being All Might's protégé had many bonuses. Spending time with his all time favorite hero and get taught all of the tricks and secrets of being a hero was enlightening. He loved it. He was getting stronger, mentally and especially physically. His quirk was hardly causing him pain at this point, and All Might was more than impressed with his growth. This closeness made Katsuki incredibly jealous, and made him want to destroy Izuku more. Why couldn't he be like Izuku? He wanted to be perfect. Spotless. Loved.

Katsuki was tackling all of his obstacles. Whether that was other students, academics, hell, even villains. He was rising to the top and everyone had taken a notice to him.

Everyone.

He shined at the Sports Festival, when he defeated the son of the then-number 2 pro-hero Endeavor, Shoto Todoroki. He felt as if it wasn't a fair win, which it really wasn't, so he refused to accept his win. He was chained up and treated like a feral animal in front of a big crowd, and an even bigger crowd watching from their televisions. For these people, the breakout student, Katsuki Bakugo, was a powerful and feral beast that didn't seem very hero-like at all. He had raw potential, and showed signs of aggression that some villains don't even possess.

Villains...

The League of Villains, one of the many sanctions of tortured souls committing crime were paying special attention to Bakugo and Midoriya. Katsuki's temper and violent outbursts made him an easy target to want to recruit to the group. Not to mention the absolute power he possessed. Midoriya was powerful so quickly, but doe-eyed and naive. He was so focused on making an impression that he was fully engulfed in tunnel-vision. However, the League of Villains liked a challenge. With a few interactions, they figured they could break the boy, and he'd submit to the cause.

The group just didn't know how to start. How to recruit the boys. Hell, they didn't know how to get their hands on them. They had tried going through UA to get the boys, and that resulted in mass damage to the school, to the group, and they only injured stupid heroes like Eraserhead. They wanted more recognition. They wanted more power. Killing All Might was the ultimate goal, but starting small with Katsuki and Izuku seemed most fitting. Especially if they could get them on their side.

And a little birdie seemed to tell the leader, Tomura Shigaraki, about a lovely little outing with the class of 1-A. And it was especially private and especially unprotected. Who hosts a Summer training in a forest anyways?

Maybe grabbing the two of them wouldn't be so hard after all...
