"are you serious?"
i took my gaze off the girl standing in front of me, and turned to look at the boy sitting beside me. nervous about what else she had to say.
he squeezed my hand, having felt my gaze on him yet he didn't return the eye contact.
my free hand shot to the necklace dangling down my neck, the one i had gotten months ago with kayla, the same one resting on her chest as she stared back at us. i felt my stomach twist and turn as the echo of her words bounced off the walls of the room.
i wasn't sure exactly what to say, yes obviously we were serious but it was like my mouth had completely dried up and i didn't know what to try and convey.
i returned the squeeze to nick's hand, hoping he'd understand what i was trying to convey with just a simple hand gesture. luckily he did, and i let out the breath i was holding as he spoke, "yes we are"
my eyes remained on nick, as he continued to look at her, i attempted to hide myself in his side. but was abruptly stopped as he nudged me back. forcing me to sit up right.
i didn't move my gaze right then though, not until a second shove came from nick and he nodded in kayla's direction.
i finally dragged my eyes back into her direction to be met with a giant smile across her face.
"i can't believe it took this long for you guys to ask me!" she chirped out, accentuating her excitement with her hands. i shot a confused glance at her, how could she have already know about us wanting to move across the country.
"before you ask, dream already told me" she answered for me, i simply shook my head. "of course he did, he had such a big mouth."
i felt nick chuckle from beside me, "i'll take that as a yes then?" he asked, trying to finally get an answer to the question that he had wrongly been so anxious about.
"of course it's a yes you idiots, why would i let you go anywhere without me?"
"i think you just can't live without us" i quipped back, earning an eye roll from her. she was still standing across the room. but she walked over to the couch that nick and i had been seated on and planted herself directly in between us. leaving her basically sitting on top of me to avoid sitting on nick at all.
she slung both her arms behind the two of us on the couch, letting out a puff of air as she got comfortable.
i shook my head at her, but leaned into her side so i could also get comfortable. i reached over the two of them and grabbed the tv remote that was resting on the arm of the couch beside nick. quickly switching it on and going to hulu.
"i want to watch community" nick told me.
kayla quickly shouting, "wait me too." so i did as requested and started typing it in until i saw the cover pop up. pressing it and just clicking on whatever episode came up first since i knew all three of us had seen every episode before so it didn't really matter.
i laid my head onto kayla shoulder and let myself drift off to sleep, ignoring the occasional laugh from one of the two of them so i could rest.
i hadn't been sleeping well with all the anticipation of asking kayla to move, and now that it was out of the way i finally felt like i could close my eyes and actually get some peaceful rest.
~
i woke up no longer on the couch, and was sent into a small state of panic as i tried to figure out where i was.
i quickly relaxed once my hand hit one of my soft stuffed animals and i realized i was in my bed. unsure of how i ended up there, i sat up and looked around my room. expecting to see either nick or kayla sitting somewhere but was surprised that i was completely alone.
it was the next morning, 10 am. i was completely shocked that i had slept for almost 12 hours, but also confused on why nick wasn't in bed with me. he was not really a morning person.
i shrugged off the weird feeling and got up, heading some noise in the kitchen as i opened my bedroom door.
i walked into the room to see kayla and nick cooking together, and a smile washed across my face at the sight of nick struggling to flip a pancake on the stovetop.
kayla was cutting up some fruit, when she looked up at me, "good morning sunshine!" she chanted, smiling for a moment before going back to the fruit in front of her.
i made my way to the chairs on the opposite side of the counter and sat down, deciding to watch the two try to cook instead of helping them.
"who moved me to my bed?"
nick turned to look at me for a moment, taking his eyes off the pancakes to speak, "oh that would have been me, do you really think kayla would've moved you?"
i laughed, he was right. not only would kayla probably had to drag me across the floor to get my body to move, she definitely would not have wanted to make me more comfortable, instead forcing me to sleep on the couch if i was tired enough to fall asleep there.
"well thank you bub, and my back thanks you for sure."
he hummed in response, turning back around to prevent anything from burning.
i felt all warm and fuzzy inside, watching the two most important people in my life work together to make breakfast. it felt like the perfect glimpse into our future of living together.
i didn't have a single fear or worry, instead i was just giddy at the idea of this
