Aria…
When I came to, I realised that I was back at Damien’s home, in my room. I turned my head towards my right shoulder and winced at the pain I felt. The wound was neatly bandaged, specks of crimson soaked through. I was dressed in an oversized plain white T shirt. I brought the collar to my nose and inhaled. It smelt of Damien. I used my core strength to raise up in bed. Joaquin was seated at the end of the bed, his body hunched over, so he must have been busy on his phone. I cleared my throat and he spun around to face me. A smile grew on his face and then he got up and walked around the side of the bed to kneel at my side.“Hey, Ari” He whispered and held my hands in his. I smiled at him and stroked the web between his thumb and index finger with my thumb. “I’m so happy you’re alive”. Joaquin laughed and then nodded his head. “I know. Me too”. “But, how, I mean…”. “Before I answer any of your questions, I think we should head down and have something to eat first” He said and stood up. “Have you eaten anything since last night?”. “No. But I’m not even hungry, I’m too tired to eat”. “I don’t care. I’ve already decided that you’re coming down with me to eat” Joaquin said firmly and threw the light throw off my legs. He held out his hand like a perfect gentleman and I took it, letting him help me off the bed.
When we walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, the rest of the household was already seated at the table, waiting for us. Tony gave me a broad beam and gave up his seat for me on the right side of Damien. I looked at Tony and lifted the corners of my mouth in an attempt of a smile. I didn’t really want to sit anywhere near Damien, especially with the way his eyes yearned for me. I scanned the table for something to fill my plate with and settled on scrambled eggs, grilled mushrooms, two Russians and toast. I noticed a mug being handed to me in my peripheral vision and closed my hand around it. When I looked up, I saw Maddox barring his teeth at me. I frowned at what he must have thought was a welcoming smile and thanked him for the mug of coffee. He made a sheepish response that you would hear from a nervous nerdy teenager asking out a girl on a date. I looked at him and deepened my frown. Maddox did seem nervous. Nervous and uncomfortable.
