Chapter 24

Cass’s POV

I headed down for breakfast with Jack holding my hand, he hadn’t left me since my melt down and I was happy because his very presence calmed me like nobody else could. I ate breakfast without really tasting it, I knew I would need energy for tonight but nerves got in the way of any enjoyment I would normally find in eating.

When I had finished eating dad looked at me, “Cass, I’ve called the pack doctor to come over to give you a complete health check and to fully explain the process, he will stay until it’s all over.”

As he finished speaking there was a knock at the door, “That will be him, come to my office as soon as you’re finished.”

Jack squeezed my left hand in a comforting manner, John got up and walked around the table giving me a hug, “Cass, you will be fine, we are all there for you.” Hannah and Roisin followed him giving reassuring hugs as well, I could feel myself well up again, I was loved, I wasn’t alone, I could do this, if they believed in me, they may be so should I.

I got up from the table, Jack not once letting go of me and walked towards dad’s office, I knocked and entered, there sitting on the chair with a bag by his side was the doctor, the same man who had looked after me after the rogue attack.

“Now Cass, you are due to shift later today, I want to do a complete health check on you and your wolf if that’s OK”

“That’s fine, thanks,” I replied.

He looked at dad and Jack indicating for them to leave me, dad got up to leave, Jack shook his head, “I’m not leaving her!”

“Jack, I know she’s your mate, but I need to do a full check-up and I think she will be more comfortable if she has that in private and can ask any questions she wants in private!” the doctor said looking him in the eye.

Dad looked at Jack and using a quiet but determined Alpha order he just said, “Jack, out now!”

I could feel Jack shake, his wolf didn’t want to leave me, but he had to bow to his Alpha’s orders, he gently gave my hand one more squeeze, kissed my cheek gently and said, “I will be right outside the door, just call if you want me.” With that he and dad left the room.

The doctor looked at me, then bent down putting his large case on the desk, “Cass, I’m going to check your heart, run some blood tests, I have a special monitor here which also checks out your wolf, then I will talk to you about the process and what we can do, is that ok with you?”

I nodded, I could feel my wolf, she whispered to me, “Cass, it will be fine I promise, we can do this, together we can do this.” My normally sassy, bouncy tiger of a wolf was serious and somehow I felt hope in her words.

He took blood, it felt like loads but in reality was only a couple of test-tubes worth, he put little patches on my chest and attached them up to an ECG machine, he did my blood pressure, he then placed little patches on my head and ran little tests, on yet another machine from his case, his bag was like Mary Poppins, I wanted to look inside to see if it was magic because he kept taking more and more out of it. Once all the tests were done, he sent the results of the electronic ones via the internet and a nurse appeared to collect the blood, I was impressed.

Then he sat me down, “Now, let me explain about tonight,” I sat up and my wolf sat up, “the full moon, will be at its strongest about midnight so most will change around that time, but you are an Alpha’s daughter so you might start earlier as soon as it is visible. The process is quite painful, because all your organs, bones and of course your skin have huge changes to go through, it can take anything from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, it all depends on your wolf, and you. If you fight the change it will take longer so I suggest you allow your wolf to take over, she will help you throughout the whole process, I will give you a pain killer about 6 so it is well in your system for whatever time you change should begin but I cannot stop the pain, just dull it slightly so your body or heart don’t go into distress, the other key person who can dull the pain is you mate, Jack. His wolf will help calm your wolf and call her to speed up the process, his touch will calm your body and whilst he is touching you he can absorb some of your pain, once the change has taken place you will notice your senses are heightened hearing, smell, sight, you will smell your mates scent, allow your wolf a bit of freedom, allow her to run, it will be good for her and you get to know each other fully. When you are ready, think of your human form, picture yourself in your mind and you will transform back, after the first shift you will never feel pain again, your body will quickly adjust taking on the form you picture and it will be almost instant.”
