Chapter 6

The next morning John looked at me, “Do you fancy gong surfing? It’s not far from here, there is a place called Lehinch about a 40 minute drive, the waves are good. I would love to come, maybe not to surf but I could take photos; that would be lovely!”

He loaded his surf board on the roof rack, I loaded my camera into the boot, we climbed in, set the radio to loud and headed off west.

John said he had been surfing for years, and that he was going to meet some of his friends there, the plan was he would surf, I would take snaps and maybe two hours later we could meet for lunch. We arrived and parked up; I climbed out and headed off, but not before arranging to meet him in a pub called Kenny’s for lunch.

I walked along the cliffs; the scenery was breath-taking. The Atlantic waves were huge crashing into the rocks, I lay on my stomach camera poised trying to capture the magic. I walked on snapping wild flowers, a dolphin leaping out of the waves; I sat, put my camera back in my rucksack and just watched. My breathing calm, my head clear, I could live here, this place is beauty personified.

I walked back towards the town and went in and out of a few shops, an artist called Morrison had a shop here, I loved his paintings, the boldness of the colours. I checked my watch almost time to meet up with John. I went into another little shop called Allure, a small jewellery shop, I wanted to get something small for Rosina and Hannah, they had been so kind to me, so thoughtful! I picked out two a hair piece for Rosin and a silver bracelet with blue stones for Hannah, it would match her eyes.

I headed up towards Kenny’s at the top of the street, and walked in a huge fire blazing in the grate, tables around it and over in the corner a group of boys and girls laughing, I saw John wave and went over, he introduced me to everyone, they all smiled and chatted introducing themselves, they seemed lovely.

“When will Jack be here?” someone said.

“Any minute,” John said he’s just parking up.

The door opened and in walked what I can only describe as the most handsome man I have ever seen, his eyes a deep dark brown, his hair an even darker brown and lips so plump and kissable they should be certified! He was at least 6ft 5inches and all muscle.

He looked up smelt the air, looked over at me and one word came out of his mouth, “Mate!”

John looked shocked, Jack was making his way over towards the table, John got up trying to intercept him, he reached him and dragged him out of the door, I thought I heard a growl; the others looked at me and smiled.

“Are we ready to order?” a girl with black curly asked, they all nodded, we all looked at the menu, making our final decisions.

John came back in with Jack, who kept staring at me but said nothing, John sat in close beside me, I heard another growl and the word “MINE!”, John glared, then looked at me again, “Ready to order?”

I whispered, “Is he OK?”

“Yeh, He’ll be fine,” John muttered, “let’s eat; I’m starved.”

I ate a lovely wrap which came with huge salad and chips, topped off with a glass of coke, I hadn’t realised I was so hungry. The conversation around the table continued, I listened in they all seemed so nice.

John nudged me, “You OK?”

“Yeh, this place is lovely, I love the Ocean, I got some great snaps, I can’t wait to go back to my studio and sort it all out.”

He smiled, one of the girls looked at me, “You have a studio? What do you do in there?”

“I paint and develop my photos, it’s my passion it’s what I want to do, I’m hoping to go to Art College next year, I’m just taking gap year to give m self some thinking time and stuff after all that’s happened.” Was that another growl from Jack? What is it with him?

“I heard,” she said, “I’m Sorry.”

“Thanks, in a strange way some good has come out of it, I’ve met my dad and I have a new family and they’re great, I couldn’t wish for better. But there’s a lot to take in, I need to decide if I’m going to college here or head back to London.”  Yet another growl.

I looked at Jack, his eyes were penetrating my very soul, I felt a pull something I couldn’t quite put my finger on, “Are you ok?”

He looked at me, “Stay!” was all he said, “Don’t go back to London, I, I mean your family need you!”

“Hey I’m here for a year, they will be sick of me by then, glad to see the back of me!”

“Never!” was all he replied.

It was time to go; John looked at me, picked up my rucksack, “Come on, we need to head home.”

“She can come with me,” Jack chimed in.

“That’s not wise at the moment Jack, she’s coming with me!” Another growl.

I followed John to the car, Jack watching our every move, “Seriously, what’s up with him?”

John looked at me nervously, “I think it’s time you met the wolf!”

Now that was a distraction, I completely forgot what I had just said and gave him the most brilliant smile, from a distance another growl could be heard, “Climb in Cass, I need to get you home!”
