Chapter 18

I woke up to bird song, the hotel was beautifully located, I jumped up out of bed, stretched and headed for the bathroom, my stomach rumbling. I dressed and went down for breakfast, nice but I missed Hannah’s sausages. I went back up to my room grabbed my bag and phone and headed off. I walked along the Thames until I came to Richmond Bridge;  I could catch a bus there, first I was going to Twickenham to look at my old home. I went to the bus stop and waited, and decided now was a goodtime to start checking those messages and texts.

I listened to all the voice mails, I read all the texts, everyone assured Mandy had been lying and Jack sounded as though he was in pain, by the time I had read and listened to everything I was in Twickenham, I thought about what I should do, I sent dad another text telling him I was good, that I understood everything, but I needed a couple of days to think, that I hadn’t had anytime on my own since mum died. I told him I was in Twickenham at this moment going to see my old home house, and I would ring him later and I would be back for my birthday in two days.

Then I sent Jack a text, explaining that I had listened to all of his voicemails and read his texts and I understood, and that I was fine, I just needed to have a little space and then as an afterthought at the end I told him I missed him and would see him in two days.

I walked to Twickenham, I took photos of The Green, I took photos of my old home, it wasn’t home anymore, I knew that now, I looked in the shops picking up a few small gifts for Hannah, dad, John and Roisin. I looked at my watch it was almost two, and my stomach was growling again, I caught a bus back to Richmond, I knew where I wanted lunch, a place called Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park.

I hopped off the bus, and walked it was a lovely walk once I entered the grounds of the park, 600 acres of greenery in the centre of London, beautiful, I took snaps of the wild deer, the trees, wild flowers I was content. I eventually came to Pembroke Lodge, it was a beautiful large white house overlooking gardens, I went into the restaurant ordering sandwiches and lovely scones with raspberry jam and  cream with a hot chocolate. I took it to an outside table overlooking the gardens and relaxed. When my phone bleeped, a text message had just come in and it was from Jack.

JACK: How you doing?

ME: I finally feel good – you?

JACK: Fine. What you up to?

ME: Sitting on a hill, overlooking a beautiful garden eating

JACK: I wish I could be with you

I thought about my next reply, I was enjoying this but it would be so much better if Jack were with me

ME: I wish you were here to – and I pushed SEND

Jack’s POV

The flight landed on time and I raced through all sections of the airport out to the Taxi rank and joined the queue, if I could have jumped it I would have. I finally arrived at the Petersham Hotel at about 1.30 and asked for Ronan Jackson, (Alpha Ronan Jackson). The girl behind the desk called him and told me to take a seat and that she would organise a pot of tea while I was waiting, as he would be about 30 minutes. I felt agitated I just wanted to find Cass now but I knew only he could tell me where she was.

A text came through then saying she was fine and she missed me, my nheart missed a beat, maybe we were going to be OK.

I drank the tea, and shuffled about, my wolf was anxious, he needed to check Cass, he was pacing back and forth within me.

Alpha Ronan Jackson arrived about 30 minutes later and I knew it was him from the aura surrounding him , powerful didn’t begin to cover him, he was huge, close to 7 foot tall, and sheer muscle, he was about 27 years old, a young Alpha, but I had no doubt a powerful Alpha. I bowed my head to show submission to his authority, I needed him to find Cass and I owed him big time for watching out for her.

“Beta Jack I believe?” He said extending his hand, I shook it and looked up at him, his face firm but kind.

“Sir, thank you for watching out for Cass, I’m not sure what I would do if anything happened to her, can you tell me where she is, I really want to go to her?”

“It has been our pleasure, your Alpha, her father explained all the circumstances, I am saddened that she has lived on our patch all her life and I never knew about her, we could have helped when her mother was dying  had we known,” he replied. Then he looked at me, “My Beta is watching her she is about 10 minutes away as we speak up in our grounds, Richmond Park.” He then called over one of his men, “Joe will drive you up there in the car, enjoy your stay with us and if there is anything you need please do not hesitate to contact me.” With that he disappeared and I found myself following Joe out the door to a car.

It was literally a ten minute drive before we parked up, he showed me the Lodge and explained she was out back sitting on a terrace having lunch. I got out the car, went through the lodge and stopped near the back door, her scent bringing immediate relief, I didn’t want to startle her, so I took out my phone and sent a text.

ME: How you doing?

CASS: I finally feel good – you?

ME: What you up to?

CASS: Sitting on a hill overlooking a beautiful garden eating

ME: I wish I could be with you

I watched her read the last message then type and push send, when I opened the message a huge grin spread across my face.

CASS: I wish you were here to.

ME: Order me a tea, on my way.

CASS: Funny LOL

I walked towards her watching her wait for a reply, “Cass, did you order that tea?”

She spun around, her face showed shock first, then a huge grin broke out on her face, “Jack?”
