Chapter 8
I woke up the next morning, stretching, I felt so relaxed, I’m not sure what it is about Ireland, but I sleep like a log, maybe it’s the huge portions of food they feed me, maybe it’s all the fresh air, maybe it’s because my head hurts from all the new information it has to keep processing.
I got up, showered and dressed and headed downstairs. Hannah as usual was in the kitchen cooking up another huge meal, did she ever leave the kitchen? She looked up at me, smiled, “breakfast?” I nodded, then she looked at me, “Fancy a girls day out? I thought you might to ask me a few questions, you know kinda get a girls perspective!”
“Please, I would so appreciate that.”
“Deal, eat up and we will hit the road to Limerick in an hour we will go to the Crescent Shopping Centre and shop till we drop, have lunch out and you can ask me anything you want.”
“Thank you, my head is buzzing.”
Dad Looked at her, “Take my Beta, Jack, he will drive you and help with anything.”
“Jack, as in Jack from surfing?” I said.
“Yes, I know you want time before you deal with all of that and I promise you he won’t say anything it’s just that Limerick is off our patch, it’s neutral but occasionally you get rogues or other packs there I want, no I need to know you are both safe!”
“Rogues?”
“Wolves that don’t belong to a pack, they become feral and dangerous; they are part of the criminal underworld!”
“Ok, if it makes you feel better, but please I’m not ready to deal with the whole mate thing so warn Jack off!”
“I will, promise!”
I ate breakfast, headed up to my room grabbed my bag, a jacket and headed downstairs, dad was waiting at the bottom his hand protectively around Hannah, “You girls enjoy yourself, stay safe, ring or text if you need anything.” He then turned to Jack, “Watch my girls!”
Jack gave a nod, hopped in the driver’s seat and waited for us to get in.
“Bye,” we both said as we went out the door hopped in the car and hit the road. Hannah and I sat in the back chatting away and the journey happened in no time.
I was really excited; with mum being ill I hadn’t had time to really shop in ages, fashion, what was that? We went into the shopping centre; all I could see was shop after shop after shop, BLISS!
Hannah looked at Jack, “How do you want to do this? Are you going to follow us around everywhere?”
“I will keep close trailing you from a distance so you feel it’s just you two but I have to stay with you, how does that sound?”
“Perfect!” said Hannah.
We shopped and shopped, I bought skinny jeans, all colours, new shoes, trainers, dresses for going out (not sure how much opportunity I will get to wear those), underwear, makeup, perfume, tops, jumpers, new coat; my arms were aching, my feet were aching, my stomach was rumbling.
Hannah looked at me, “Ready for a coffee break before we head home?”
“Please,” I replied smiling, sheer relief written all over my face, we headed to a café and sat, I could see Jack hovering outside, “Should we ask Jack to join us, he must be tired as well?”
“Are you sure,” Hannah said, “I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable, today is about you.”
I smiled, “Yep it’s fine, and I think you have bought just as much as me!”
She laughed, “I love shopping, in fact it’s my middle name!” She called Jack over; he sat down with us, looking at me.
His eyes were sad, “Food?” Hannah asked.
“I’ll have a Panini please with every filling available,” I laughed, “with a decaff latte and a doughnut, I’m starving!”
Jack laughed, “I’ll have the same please but can I have a coke not coffee?”
Hannah went off, I looked at Jack, not sure whether to talk or not, bite the bullet I thought, that’s what mum had taught me face things head on. “Em Jack, John told me we were mates.”
He looked up, those sad eyes again, “Yeh, but your dad and John told me what you have been through, and how you need time and space, I understand that, could we start off being friends please, it helps me when I am close to you.”
“How? Why?”
“My wolf is calmer when I am near you, but I understand if you’re not ready for that!”
“Sure,” I said, “friends sounds good, and we’ll see how we go,”
Hannah arrived back with a tray laden down with food; we ate chatting shopping, the journey home and plans for the evening. I said I was going to paint to unwind, Jack asked me all about my painting and asked if at some point he could see it, I looked at him, “Yeh when we come back come down to the cabin for 10 minutes and I’ll show you whilst I am setting up!”
The smile that earned me was unbelievable and was that love I could see shining out in his eyes? I shook my head, nah too soon even for Jack!
I said I needed the bathroom before we headed back, Hannah, smiled and said she did too, we left Jack with the bags, and he said he would take them to the car and come back in to us and meet us outside the bathrooms. He picked them up as if we had just bought a one t-shirt!
We headed down the empty corridor to the bathrooms, we went in relieved ourselves when the door slammed open and in walked 3 guys, dirty, rough looking guys, Hannah looked scared, “Don’t say anything, let me deal with this,” she said.
The first man sniffed the air, “Ahh Alpha Sean’s wife, how nice to finally meet you, that scum bag of a husband, owes me big time, he hurt my mate last time we accidently strayed on to his land, I think it’s payback time.” He caught hold of her and smashed her head against the wall.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” I sneered.
“Don’t, please stay out of this,” Hannah cried as tears and blood ran down her face.
“I’m not frightened of this scum bag who thinks it’s ok to attack women.”
He looked at me, sniffing the air again, “An unmated female, interesting and I can smell Alpha off you as well, Who are you, you can’t be his kids he has two, John and Roisin, maybe we can have some fun with her guys,” The other two men sniggered dirtily.
“Fat chance!” I smirked.
Hannah was pushed against the wall, as all three guys approached me, all I needed to do was to distract them and stay alive long enough until Jack came.
I could smell them, there sniggers became snarls, sharp teeth protruding; I hoped I had done the right thing!
