Chapter 7
The drive home took no time at all, John told me to go look at my photos in the studio and that he would talk to dad about organising for me to see the black wolf, I smiled, happy, I couldn’t wait to sort out my photos and I couldn’t wait to meet mum’s favourite wolf, I really hoped he would like me to and maybe allow me to take a photo or two!
I headed out to the Cabin, threw my jacket over the sofa, hit the iPod so my music was blasting, turned on the laptop and got out my camera. I downloaded my photos, decided which one I wanted to paint printed it, then headed to my easel.
I put on a blank canvas, pinned my photo up beside it, got out my oils and so began my mission. I was lost in time and space and music, I always felt happy and free when it was me and my art, time didn’t mean anything, I’d forget to eat, forget to sleep, when I was in creative mode. I knock came to the cabin door, dad’s head popped around.
“Is it OK if I come in Cass?”
“Of course, what time is it?”
“10.30, you missed dinner, but I figured if you were hungry you would come up to the house!”
He looked at my painting so far, “Cass you are truly gifted, you have captured the Atlantic, and it feels as if I could just reach out and touch that Dolphin, so real.”
Smiling and happy I said “Thanks.”
“Cass, John said I should introduce you to the black wolf, is now a good time or shall we do it tomorrow?”
“Are you kidding, I have been waiting my whole life to see the wolf that my mum loved, where is he, do we have to go somewhere?”
He looked at me nervously, “Cass, promise you won’t get scared, promise you won’t run, promise you will listen to everything before you do anything rash!”
I looked him in the eye, “Mum loved that wolf so much, I was hoping to find a similar connection, I’m hoping he will let me paint him, I want to capture those eyes, that fur, dad I am not frightened of him, I want to get to know him!”
“You already do Cass, and you already have a connection, and he loves you very much.”
“I don’t know him, how you can say that?”
“You do Cass, you see the wolf is me, I am a werewolf, your brother is a werewolf, your sister, Hannah, in fact all of John’s friends today are werewolves,” he replied.
I laughed, “Yeh, Yeh! Now when are we going to meet him.”
“Now!”
The next thing I heard a cracking, then before my very eyes I saw fur sprouting out of my dad’s skin, his nose elongating, ears growing, a tail forming and then nothing, total blackness.
I woke up on my sofa with dad looking at me a sadness or was it worry in his eyes.
Dad’s POV
I was so scared when she blacked out, I shifted back to my human form, found a robe and lifted her onto the sofa, I mind linked with John to bring me down some clothes, which he did. I asked him to hang around in case she wanted to talk to him as well once she came round. It was time to tell her, Jack had told John she was his mate; he wanted to get close to her, I couldn’t allow that until she knew and understood our kind, she was one of our kind, she was going to find that out on her 18th birthday in two weeks, I needed to prepare her.
She started to come round, she looked at me, I wasn’t sure what I saw in her eyes, but it didn’t seem like fear, I on the other hand was so scared she would hate us all, be frightened, want to leave or even run.
