Chapter 29
Cass’s POV
The training was rigorous and for two weeks John made me train both in human form and wolf form for at least 4 or 5 hours per day, in between I would paint or take photographs to help me unwind. Jack and I fell into a comfortable pattern; he would carry on his Beta duties spending any other time watching me train or paint or just spend time relaxing (not that we got too much of that, Jack’s idea of relaxing was spending time in bed which ultimately lead -to well you have the idea).
My life was good, I was happy, fitter then I have ever been, I had a family that I loved and who loved me back and were protective of me, I had made lots of friends within the pack and knew maybe half the names, thanks to my painting of Jack and dad I had several commissions for portraits, I had completed a large order for canvases, oil paints and frames to allow me to carry them out so I had a small but growing business which was my dream. Best of all I had Jack, my soul mate, someone somewhere created the perfect person, thoughtful, brave, loving, funny, and they created him just for me, and I had no doubt that Jack loved me with every fibre of his being, all in all life was fantastic, perfect even.
It was a Thursday and once again I was training with John, I was in human form, Jack had given me a kiss, happy that John wouldn’t hurt me during training and headed off to do a patrol, John was constantly pushing me to my limits, coming at me full force, I think he had learned a few tricks from me just as I was learning from him. We were about two hours into the session, he had hurled himself at me and I had once again deflected him, but then he caught me unawares, I had been checking out Jack, and yes I know I shouldn’t allow myself to be distracted but I missed him, I thought John was still recovering on the ground, “Jack, where are you?”
“I’m at the border, we have found a scent, smells like rogues and there are more than one of them, you still training?”
“Yup, arrrrrrrrr!” It was at that moment that John had pounced, he had caught my legs, throwing me to the ground, but that wasn’t where the pain was coming from, it was deep in my body, I was writhing on the ground with the pain.
“Cass, what’s wrong? Answer me!” Jack shouted in my head.
I couldn’t, the pain was making me feel sick, I was burning up, my stomach on fire, my head pounding, John rushed over, “Bloody hell Cass, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you so much, where does it hurt?”
I was rolling round clutching my stomach, every sense on full alert, then John who was stroking my head, sniffed the air, “Bloody hell, you’re on heat!”
He picked me up running to the house, I could hear Jack through the mind link, calling my name, I couldn’t answer, my head was blown away, my core on fire, John ran in the house, calling to Hannah, who followed John up to my room cooing to me, trying to soothe me, nothing could calm that inner turmoil, John gently placed me on the bed and then said, “Cass, I’m gonna leave you with you with Hannah, the scent is too strong for me, I need to go, Jack is on his way, I’ve explained to him what’s happened!”
