Work was busy and tiring.
My feet hurt from all the running around I did all day.I mean going back was nice.
Yet I didn't think it would be this exhausting.I unlock the door and hear Clay talking in the living room. I take off my shoes and hang up my jacket before heading into the room. He's on the phone and looks up and waves at me before going back to the call.
'Of course, with you anything would work.' He says. I raise my eyebrows in confusion as I lay my bag on the table. 'Yes I know, me too.' He says. I take out the plastic bag and water bottle and some empty paper cups from work. 'I'm sure you are.' He says before chuckling. Who is he calling? I look at the notes I made today to see if there's anything of importance that I need to take care off soon. 'Oh come on now, you know you're pretty. It doesn't matter what you wear.' I look up at his words. Is he calling a girl? I take the things I got out of my bag and head to the kitchen.
'I'll see you tomorrow then, night.' He says in the living room as I throw away the paper cups. I hear him walk up behind me as I empty the water bottle before rinsing it out. 'How was your day?' He asks. I look over my shoulder to see him leaning against the doorpost with a bright smile. 'Not as good as yours apparently.' I say. He scratches the back of his neck as he lets out a sort chuckle, smile not disappearing.
'I've uhm...... I have a date tomorrow.' He says.
I turn around now 'you what?' I ask on a blank tone. 'Yeah, weird right? Stumbled across her like, ten days ago. We've been talking since and we decided to go on a date.' I look at him, not completely following what he's saying, or not wanting to.
'Alright. I hope it goes well.' I say with a fake smile. 'Me too.' He says as he walks over. He opens the microwave and hands me a warm plate with food. 'I made dinner and warmed it when you texted you were heading home.' He says. 'Thanks.' The stab in the heart lets off a numb feeling. 'I'm eating upstairs, I have some things i need to look over.' I say as I take the plate with me and walk back to the living room. I grab my bag. 'Are you coming down when you're done?' He asks. 'No I don't think so. I'm going to sleep early.' I say. He looks a little disappointed. 'Alright then. Goodnight.' He says. I nod and head upstairs.
I sigh after I closed the bedroom door.
What the hell?!
I thought he...I thought.....
Tears fill my eyes as I set everything down on my desk. Was it just me who actually cared then? I didn't think this would happen. I mean I know I'm not his girlfriend, but still. We went on a date a bit more then two weeks ago. The whole thing of what if the other gets into a relationship thing. What about that. What about when he told me he wouldn't like that.
What happened.
I sit down on bed, staring at the plate as I hold the tears back.
I could have known.
I could have seen this coming and expected it so it would hurt less.
Why does it even hurt as much as it does?Did he really find someone?
