Eva's POV
When I find myself beginning to wake up, I'm immediately bombarded by the smell of medicine, like that of a hospital room. I squeeze my eyes shut, hoping for at least a few more moments of sleep, but that's when I begin to ask myself questions. Why am I in a room that smells this way? Where even am I and what am I doing here? What happened-What happened with the queen?
My eyes flash open in an instant as I go bolting up, ready to rush out of this bed. I stop myself though as I stare down at bandaged arms and legs and a pain begins to throb through my stomach. Right, I remember now. As I lie back down, I think about how much Cas sobbed as I just barely clung onto consciousness earlier, it makes my stomach drop. Sighing, I glance to the side of me to see mum sat on a chair beside the bed, head resting on it as she snores quietly. She looks exhausted, large bags weighing under her eyes as she sleeps peacefully. "Mum... mum, wake up," I whisper, gently shaking her arm.
"Ngh... I'm awake, I'm awake, I- Eva?" Her tired eyes widen as she glances my way, soon filling with tears. "Oh thank god you're okay!"Her hands seem to tremble as she cups my cheeks with them, a smile so wide - despite all the tears - spread across her face. I told mum that I'd be careful not to get hurt, I really screwed up when it came to that. "You scared the shit out of me, don't ever do that again."
"I won't," I laugh a little. "I... is she really gone?"
"Yes, she is. You'll finally get to live a normal life, I won't have to worry about you anymore."
"A normal life... I'm guessing dad won't be a part of that life."
"I'm sorry... he really does want to, but he has so much to do now, so much to fix and correct," she sighs, gently taking my hand. "He's been visiting often though, every moment of free time he's had, he's been here to keep an eye on you. He... I think he blamed himself for allowing you to be hurt.""I... is Cas okay? Where is he?" I ask.
"Resting, or he should be. He and Flynn seemed to want to go out to do something but I tried to convince them otherwise, I don't think I was successful," she smiles. "Cassie and Hunter are visiting their home at the moment, Cassie's mother went along with them. Let's see, what else...? Oh, Lucky's met up with Warren again and is probably with the other half bloods right now."
"What's going to happen to them?"
"It depends. Some are adults and are free to go live on their own. The younger ones had a variety of options: if both are willing, they can live with their Pure parent; if they're lucky enough to be alive, they can live with their Impure parent; if neither option works, some are being sent to orphanages or family members who are willing to take them in.""And Tana?"
"That's Sebastian's sister, right?" I nod. "Well, she's been taken in by Mrs Ayres, her stepmother I suppose. She was somewhat revolted by some of the things her husband has done so she plans to divorce him and give Tana a safe and comfortable home to live in."
"That's good, I remember Mrs Ayres being quite nice. What about Rose? What's happening with her and dad?"
"They're also divorcing. There's no point for them to stay together, plus, Cassie deserves to be able to live with her mother again. If only-"She cuts herself off as the door slowly opens, dad dragging himself inside and dropping onto the chair beside mum. Resting his head on her shoulder, he closes his eyes, somehow looking even more exhausted than mum. "You okay?"
"Just recharging, give me a moment," he yawns. "How's Eva doing?"
"Take a look for yourself."After a moment, he forces his eyes open, gaping when I wave slightly at him. "You're awake, you're okay, you're- how do you feel?"
"Shit. Everything hurts, I barely wanna move," I reply. "But, I guess I'm happy too. She's gone, she'll never hurt me or anyone else again."
"That is something, isn't it?" He laughs a little. "I'm just glad you're okay, I was told you'd be alright but I couldn't stop myself from worrying. You'll have to rest up during the next few days, your birthday's coming up."
"Wait, what day is it?"
"The twenty sixth. You don't have to worry about your promise with Maven, you should easily make it back home by the thirtieth," mum answers. "So use these next days to rest and heal, don't worry about anything else for now."
"Alright, I won't."
