Song - C U girl by Steve Lacy

The wedding planing was all coming into place. We chose a humble little venue. It had exposed brick and a wedding arch covered in white and pink flowers. We booked for November 8th 1996 and began to send out our save the dates.

"Have you chose your best man yet Tim?" I said as we sat together sealing envelopes.
"I don't know. My friend Mike I've known since like kindergarten. But then there's Joe who I went to collage with he's like a brother too. So I feel just stuck in the middle."
"Well you don't have to decide right now. You could very well leave it until the week before the wedding."

"You think I could do that?"
"I was being sarcastic Tim." I sealed the last letter in my pile.
"Ugh, what should I do."
"Just do eenie meenie miney mo. Or wait till they get here and make them have several rounds of Rock Paper Scissors."

He laughed sarcastically.
"Kay baby I better get going those dresses won't try on themselves." I grabbed my coat and gave him a head kiss.
"Good luck." He smiled as I walked out.

"Whattaya think?" I asked Lois standing in a Cinderella style dress that was very sparkly.
"Oh no babes, it's way too puffy."
"Uh thank god that's exactly what I was thinking."
"Hey what about that one."

She pointed to another dress on our 'trying on' rack. It was a shift and not traditional in the slightest well apart from the brilliant white colour.
"Hmm, lemme try it on."

I pulled it over my head and zipped it up. I looked at myself in the mirror. It was beautiful. It had silver embroidery on the shoulders to add a touch of elegance and it fit me perfectly. I walked out into the little show area.

Lois made a very audible gasp.
"Oh my god. You look beautiful."
"I really like this one."
"It's so...you. Uh hold on-" she rushed over to a bin grabbing a vail and put it on me.
"There a proper bride."

Her eyes were filling with emotion.
"Oh god Lois don't cry cause then you'll make me cry and my mascara is gonna run."
We laughed it off.

I purchased the dress and came home to Timothée about 5pm that Sunday with it in a bag.
"Ooh is that it?" He teased.
"Yes. And it's going right to the back of the cupboard."
"Wait you not gonna model it for me?" He asked leaning back on his chair at the dining table.

"No, it's bad luck for a man to see his bride in her dress before the wedding." I said clutching the bag close to me.
"Oh come on you don't seriously believe in that do ya?"
I nodded.
"I thought you were a non-traditionalist feminist." He teased.

"I am. It's just, some traditions are nice and they put my mind at ease."
I said proudly.
"If it puts your mind at ease." He said standing up, walking over and kissing me on the forehead.
"Now lemme see the dress."
He tried to grab the bag and I pulled away.

"No way,"
"Oh come on lemme see it." He chased me down the corridor until I put it in the bedroom cupboard and shut the door.
"There it's stored away, you can't get it now. Ha HA!" I was leaning against the cupboard.
He stood right up against me and kissed me.

- later in bed

"So I chose my best man." He said stroking my hair as I lay under his bicep.
"Oh you did?"
"Yeah I went with Mike, called him while you were out and he was really happy. He literally said I gotta tell Joe I beat him. So they must've known I was between them."
We shared a laugh then;

"I can't wait to meet your friends your New York friends." I said.
"They'll be your friends soon enough. There's no doubt in my mind they'll love you exactly like I do."
He pressed a kiss on my cheek.
"Okay maybe not exactly like I do." He said making me laugh.
