Song - acquiesce by Oasis

1999

"So this is Charlie she plays guitar and this is Liv she plays drums."
"Gotta give it to ya Jules you did find a band very quickly."
"I have skills."

About a week after Jules had told me she wanted to start a band she moved into this apartment with Charlie. She may be sleeping with her, I was getting vibes.

"Okay so I brought a little oasis to get us started." I gave the new girls sheet music but I knew me and Jules know 'acquiesce' very well.

"Kay Liv start us off with a little drums." She hit the drums and a beat started to fill the room.
"Yes that's great!" I shouted over the beat.

It felt really nice to be the leader of a band again. Like I was doing something important rather than singing back up for someone else.

"Add a bass riff J." She did everyone seemed to be getting into it now, tapping their feet, lightly bopping their head.
"Little guitar now."

That escalated it.
"Now we're talking. 3, 2, 1 I don't know what it is that makes me feel alive I don't know how to wake the things that sleep inside I only wanna see the light that shines behind your eyes..."

I burst into the lyrics I knew so well. Adrenaline rushed through my veins, I missed being in a band something about banging drums forced you to give your all.

"That was great guys. Y'know Oasis?" A tiny bit of my heart died that I had to ask but after all they were Americans.

Charlie spoke; "I love 'em saw them last year."
"Aw Charlie you're a legend." I said excitedly. "The amount of Americans I've met who's ears have not been graced with Oasis is depressing."

"I've heard a few of their songs." Liv said. "I think Liam Gallagher is hot." She laughed.
"See now this is the enthusiasm I wanna see."

Jules chuckled, she could tell I was finally back in my element.
"Okay everyone keep it going with Supersonic!"

The music exploded again and I felt like I had taken a drug. I wasn't back in London, I wasn't in queens. I was somewhere, floating.

Somehow 2 hours passed by and the garage doors (belonging to Charlie and Jules) felt knocking.
"Hey." Timothée's voice rang through the room. "How's it going."

"Great baby." I gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Guys this is my husband Timothée and baby this is Charlie and Liv."
"Hi," he waved.
"Wait, husband? How old are you?" Liv asked.
"Twenty six." I replied.
"Damn, the only person I know who was married at twenty six was my mother." Laughed Charlie.

We laughed along.
"Well I suppose we better get going then." I said grabbing my sheet music knowing Timmy was there to pick me up.
"Y'all got plans for New Years?" Liv asked.
"Well we were just gonna watch the ball drop on TV."
"Are you kidding? Ya live in New York go see it in real life!" Liv interjected.

"We got a little two year old ya see." I said.
"Ohhh. You can't miss out on the partying though. It's gonna be a new millennium!" Liv went on enthusiastically.
"Hey why don't we come round. Charlie makes rocking mimosas." Jules said.
"It'll let us bond as a band too." Charlie said.

I liked their enthusiasm but I didn't know how Timmy would feel.
"What do you think?" I asked Timothée.
"Well as long as we're not tearing you away from your own plans.
"Oh please!" Said Charlie. "Me and Liv have only been in the city for a month, we don't know anyone!"

"Wow you've been here for a month and you've got a place like this." I exclaimed.
"I inherited it. Didn't even know my grandma but apparently she lived here. Or at least stored stuff here." She nodded her head to a pile of cardboard boxes.
"So it's settled then. You wanna come around 8/9?" I said.
"Sure thing. See you then."

...

Timothée was tidying up in the kitchen, making it look appealing for our guests. Daisy was watching some children's programe in the living room. I swooped into the kitchen and twirled displaying my look for the turn of the century.
"Whattaya think?"
He looked up briefly and done a double take.

The sparkly blouse I was wearing was backless and showed off my collarbones too.
"Oh baby you look so good." He grabbed my waist and pulled me close to him, his hand smoothed along my back.
"Very." Kiss "sexy" kiss.
"Thank you baby. I'm glad you like it."
"Wanna drink?" He offered picking up a set of glasses we'd had gifted from his auntie after the wedding, our fanciest glasses.

"Why not. There girls will be here soon." He began to pour my drink, I'd have champagne later of course but for now I'd just have my regular that Timothée knew without hesitation.
"You don't mind do you? Y'know my friends coming. I mean you could invite-"
"Mike's going to some mad soirée in Nice. Did I not tell you?"

"I don't think you did. But I know Joe can't come either."
"Yeah he said he'd be spending it with María."
"And María said to me she and Joe will be riding in the new year together." We clinked glasses.
"Filthy perverts." Joked Timothée as we both sipped.
"Can't blame them. Newly engaged..." I pondered romantically. "When we were engaged we did it like bunnies."

"Still do it like bunnies." He insisted in a low tone.
"I prefer when we do it like dogs." I winked. He seemed shocked at my upfrontness.
I heard the door chap and we were cut off. The girls filed through the door with hello's and hi's. They were all offered their respective glasses and they settled in seats.

Daisy smiled at them all and they awed at her cuteness.
"Y/n! Y/n!" Jules and Liv seized me away from a conversation with Charlie.
"Yeah?"
"Did. You. See. Friends?"
"Oh yeah." I laughed.
"Wasn't it hilarious?" Liv said.
"I couldn't stop laughing at Monica and Ross's dance." I said.
"Me too!"

Midnight approached and I noticed Daisy in Timothée's lap yawning while he talked away to Charlie.
"Aw darling you tired?"
Timmy noticed me.
"Think she's struggling to stay up."
Daisy didn't utter a word or a noise as Timmy handed her to me.
"Aw she is so precious." Charlie said.
"Yeah but she can be a bugger at times believe me." I chuckled.

Charlie laughed though I'm pretty sure the word bugger did not translate to her American brain.
"Should I put her to bed babe?"
"Probably a good idea, I know you wanted to stay up with her but she's practically asleep on your shoulder." He said, rationally.

"Yeah I think I'll tuck her into bed."
I carried my daughter up to her bedroom and she relaxed into her bed.
Her little head laid down on the pillow and I smoothed her hair.
"Happy new year darling."
I kissed her forehead and went back to the party.

"Babe, babe." Timmy got me at the foot of the stairs.
"I'm a little drunk but the radios playing talk tonight, we should dance!" He dragged me into the kitchen and when the music hit us he pulled me into a sway. I nestled into his shoulder, taking in his scent of smoke and natural sort of lemony fresh.

Our fingers intertwined on my right, his free hand was on my waist gently guiding me to the slow guitar strum of our song. I looked into his intelligent green eyes and he looked into mine. Our faces drew closer, breath against breath, noses lightly touching. Then, our blushing soft lips meeting as if strangers that knew each other in a past life.

"Oi you two!" Jules shouted. "Hurry up, you'll miss it!"
We laughed gently and I clung to him arm as we strolled to our TV set that premiered the new year on screen.
"You know I felt a little guilty, about Daisy." I admitted to Timmy.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. She's the only kid, none of our friends have kids. All my cousins are in England...perhaps she needs someone."

"What like a friend?"
"Maybe."
"She's a bit young to start kindergarten dont you th-"
"Timothée." Our eyes locked intensely and suddenly, he got it.
"You wanna try?"
I nodded. A smile broadened on his face.
"3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
Again we kissed but he grabbed he and lifted me so the moment felt climactic. Our kiss, lasted only a few seconds but I clang to him for what felt like forever.
