I quickly looked at the wall clock in the waiting area of the train station. 11:53, it read.
Only a few more minutes, I thought to myself as my leg excitedly bounced up and down.
I looked around at my surroundings, smiling as a little girl tried to eat a chocolate ice cream cone but instead smeared it all over her face. I remember making fun of Adrian for doing that- I would call him "poopy face" or something like that, and he would pout and tattletale on me to Mum.
I looked up at the clock once more- 11:55. God, why does time have to go by so slowly?
In my hand, I fumbled with the small box. It was a homecoming present for John- thought I get him something just because. It was a guitar pick, a gold one, specifically made for basses. I had it handmade, with the letters JRD enscribed on it. Thinking about it now, I should of gotten him something better, like a new watch or something.
"The noon train will be arriving soon, heading towards Glasgow," a voice informed the people in the waiting area.
I looked down at the paper sat down next to me on the bench. I circled the train route John was supposedly on, and sure enough, the one he was on was coming from Leicester and heading to Glasgow next. My lips curled a bit at the corners and my leg tapped faster.
Minutes passed by, and the train still hadn't arrived. Trains aren't always on time, I told myself as I watch the clock hand tick to the 12. Finally, at 12:06, a train horn was heard, and here came the one that John was on. Hopefully.
All of a sudden flustered, I stood up, hid the box behind my back, and smiled widely when the train slowed to a stop. The conductor yelled something, and out came a flood of people. I stood on my tippy toes, scanning over the heads of others for the familiar head of mouse-brown hair.
"Boo," someone suddenly whispered in my ear, startling me.
"Gah!" I yelped, turning around quickly. There was John, a playful smirk on his lips. "John!" I suddenly threw myself in his arms. He grabbed me and lifted me up, twirling around. I squealed like a little girl until he let go of me, which he then proceeded to kiss my face all over. Oh, how wonderful it felt to have John as a boyfriend.
"I miss you," he said, pecking me on the lips.
"I miss you too," I beamed at him.
"What's this?" he asked, nodding his head towards the box in my hand.
"Oh!" I exclaimed. "I almost forgot! Here."
He took the box, pink slightly rising into his cheeks. "Oh, you shouldn't have, (Y/N)."
"But I wanted to. Now open it," I ordered him.
He slowly opened it, eyeing me the entire time. He knew I couldn't take the suspension, and he was teasing me. "Oh, just open it, damnit!" I squealed, playfully hitting him on the shoulder. He chuckled, and opened the box the rest of the way. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the awkward thanks he would give me for giving him such a stupid gift.
Instead, all he said was, "Oh."
I opened one eye, and asked, "Do you like it? I understand if you don't. It's kind of a stupid pre-"
I was cut short from a finger being placed on my lips. I opened the other eye, and looked at John. The cute grin that I fell in love with just a couple of months ago was there, and his eyes sparkled a little.
"I absolutely love it, (Y/N)," he whispered before kissing me once more.
"More than your Christmas present?" I asked after the kiss.
