Chapter twenty seven

Percy

It had been a few days since the, um, incident I guess. Reyna was driving me to go pick Nico up from the hospital, and she was really pissed. "But Percy listen you need to take better care of Nico! I should not be having to drive you to and from the hospital twice in two months! This is not okay! I am not your personal driver! I am-" I quickly slipped my earplugs in and tuned her out, nodding and pretending to listen.

I was on my third song and still undetected when a hand forcefully ripped the earplug from my ear. "ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?!" Reyna screamed. I only now realized the car was stopped. "Reyna I'm sorry I-" "Sorry doesn't cut! Out of the car!" I gulped and looked out the window, we were on a deserted road, not another car in sight.

"Reyna that's not a good idea. Nico needs me to come home. I know your mad about Marcy but-" Reyna glared at me and said "This isn't about Marcy. Get out of the car!" You see, Marcy broke up with Reyna earlier today.

"Reyna I-" But again she cut me off "OUT!" I didn't budge. "I'll call the police." Reyna said deathly calm, holding up a phone threateningly. I growled and grabbed my phone showing her my contacts "I'll call Annabbeth." I said simply, my finger hovering above Annabeth's phone number.

"You wouldn't," Reyna said looking at me pleadingly. "Don't try me." I warned. "Fine. The hospital."  Reyna didn't talk to me for the rest of the drive. When we pulled up in the parking lot I warned her again about calling Annabeth. Everyone is scared of an angry Annabeth. And she would be angry at Reyna. Reyna knows that.

I walked into the hospital and walked up to the front desk. "Hi, I'm here for Nico Di Angelo?" I said kindly. The lady at the desk frowned and looked confused, then gave me his room number.

I walked over and knocked on the door slightly to show my presence before walking in. Nico was sitting in there alone, dressed, but with his head in his hands. "Nico?" I said, he didn't respond. I walked up to him slowly.

"Nico babe you okay?" I said gently. Again, he didn't respond. I placed my hand on Nico's shoulder trying to comfort him, but he shoved me off. I slowly sank down into the bed next to him, but he didn't even acknowledged my presence.

I placed my head on his shoulder and tried to whisper into his ear but he scooted away from me, still not taking his dead out of his hands. Was it something I did? Something I said? Maybe Reyna's right. Maybe I really should have been taking better care of him. He probably feels so betrayed by me, like I let him down. I let him get hurt.

"Nico, are you okay?" I said reaching my hand out toward him, trying to touch him. He pushed my hand aside, still refusing to look at me. "Nico, I'm sorry..." I said feeling very guilty at this point. This time he looked up at me, tears specking his cheeks and his eyes where read and puffy from crying, his lips where puffy and bruised.

"Sorry?" He croaked out confused "Sorry for what?" his voice was rough from crying. It broke me to see him like this, so sad and disoriented. I just wanted to fix him, even though I know the cuts are deeper then I will ever understand. I want to make it all better, I want fix him and make him happy, but I know all I can do is pick up the pieces every time they fall apart. Nico is not a car, I can't fix him and make him run right, all I can do is hold the shattered pieces in my arms and make sure I don't drop them.

"I-I thought you where mad at me..." I said confused "For-for um...For not taking better care of you I guess..." Nico looked at me, very sad. "No Percy. You do the best you can. I don't expect you to come riding in shining armor and slay my dragon. It's not you." Nico said refusing to meet me in the eyes.

"Then what is it Nico? What's bothering you?" I said lifting his chin so he would meet me in the eyes. Nico just sighed. "I love you Nico. I hope you know that..." I said starring into his big, sad, brown eyes. Nico winced and said "I-I..... Let's just go." I nodded slowly.

But before we left I pulled him into a hug, rapping my arms aorund him. "You can tell me anything, you know that. Right?" I mumbled into his hair. He pulled away and said "No Percy. I can't tell you this." his words stung "Why not?" I said distressed.

"Beacuse Percy, I don't want you to fight my fights. I have to learn to fight them myself." Nico said looking down. "Nico, I've never done that." I said making him look up at me. "Listen to me, Nico. There are monsters in this world, millions of them, and we all have to face all kinds of different monsters. I will never try to fight your fights for you, I will fight them beside you, hand in hand. So you never ever have to face your monsters alone." I spoke softly, but a smile played at his lips as I spoke.

"Thank you Percy. Thanl you. And you, you shall never have to fight the monsters alone either. Now lets go home." Nico said smilling. I nodded, and just as I was about to speak the door opened. I turned to see a younge doctor, Dr. Solace.

The doctor smiled at me then turned to Nico saying "Ah, Nico, ready to go?" Nico was silent, so I said "Yes, actually We're leaving now. Have a good day!" Nico smiled at me and we began to walk out the door.

 A hand was placed on my shoulder me back. "Actually, Nico is coming with me." Dr. Solace said in a cold tone. "N-n I'm not. You kissed me, this doesn't mean I'm bound to you. I have a boyfriend, actually this is my boyfriend." Nico said glancing at me nervously. "I'm sorry Percy I-" he began but I held up my hand signalling for him to stop.

I said "It's fine, Nico." then stepping closer to Dr. Solace and directing my attention at him I said "I Like a little competition from time to time." I glared daggers at this Solace kid. What was he doing with Nico. My Nico. My little little adorable Nico.

I grabbed Nico's hand, and he looked at me with pleading in his eyes. Then I noticed it, the swollen bruised lips, the light red spotts down his neck, this guy has been kissing Nico. Nico looked at me and then at Dr. Solace and finally back to me before he said "Percy if you want competition your in the wrong place," then he turned and glared at Will "There's no competition here."

This how it works. Fighting the cheats, the haters, the liars, the critics, the monster, but fighting them hand in hand. Side by side, we will punish anything and anyone who comes between us. Together, we will slay each others dragons. And when we're done, we will go home and have a big bowl of blue ice cream.

"Come on Percy, lets go." Nico said pulling my hand. "Wait!" I said before we left. Nico looked at me expectantly and I said "Can I punch him?" "No Percy." "But I wanna punch him!" "Percy stop. You can't." "Please!" "No." "Why not?!" "Because that would be awfully rude. Besides, Reyna's waiting." "Oh, she probally left a while ago. Now back to the punching thing....?" "Percy come on lets just go."

But before we left I managed to slap the Solace jerk. Nico dragged me outside to the car, witch was still there thank god. When we got in the car, Reyna was sitting there, looking board but also like she'd been crying. "What took so long?" she groweled when we got in."I'll explain later." I promised.

Me and Nico sat next to each other in the back seat, cuddling the whole way back to the dorm. It was so great. I love him so much. So, so much.
