Chapter forty three

Nico

Sitting in the hospital, holding the child to a women I barely knew, all I can do is watch as my boyfriend runs outside crying. Bianca offered to talk to him, then left before I could so much as open my mouth. Leo and Annabeth where after her in a second, while Hazel lingered around the doors. I walked up to Hazel, feeling I deserve to at least witness what ever it is that's happening.

Me and Hazel looked at each other, neither one knowing what to say. Sometimes silence is thick, heavy, and awkward, but this silence was loud. In fact, I'd never heard silence so loud- heck, I can't remember ever hearing anything as loud as this. This silence was deafening. 

Then, I heard a noise to rival the silence. A scream echoed from outside. My head snapped around just in time to see the blurry form of a car through the rain. My mouth went dry, someone outside yelled for a doctor and I was hustled aside by a hard of people. Unable to think properly, let alone move, I was pushed into Hazel who grabbed me gently by the arm and took the child from my hands.

I was rooted to the spot as the doctors carried two  pale forms in, followed by Annabeth. Percy was no where to be seen. Only when they passed by me did I remember to look and see who it was- and I instantly wished I hadn't.

Bianca was being carried, mangled blood and bruised skin, into a different part of the hospital. Hazel gasped, the baby started crying, I think I screamed.

Annabeth

 I followed Bianca outside. I understand that the Di Angelo's have come close to Percy, even depend on him,  but he's still my best friend and he needs me right now. I thought about how cliche this was, rain and death and birth, pretty much something you can find in every other story. But, to happen in real life... To a family as whole and happy as Percy's... I shook my head.

Bianca was calling for Percy, Leo was to, I quickly joined in but felt as though my voice was carried back into my throat by the wind. Following Leo and Bianca onto the side walk, I yelled louder, but only  succeeded in straining my voice.

When Leo yelled "Look out!" I barely heard him in time to turn around and see the car. Bianca tried to turn around, but the wheel of her wheel chair went over the edge of the curve. A second before it happened I saw what was going to go down in my mind, unfortunately, it was a second to late.

The car hit the wheel and kept driving. The wheel spun off, the chair flipped over, trapping a now barely conscious Bianca under it in the middle of the road. I yelled "Doctor!" And Leo ran to help her. "Leo, no!" I screamed, and he moved just in time to miss the motorcycle that went by, unfortunately it rode over his leg. Leo screamed as it happened, Bianca screamed when it went over her arm, and I screamed "DOCTOR!"

The doctors ran out and picked them both up, carrying them inside. I felt big, wet tears start to drip from eyes. I was socked to the bone, Sally was dead, Leo and Bianca where injured, Bianca's might be fatal, and Percy is no where to be seen. It's funny how things can go so wrong in just a matter of hours.

I followed the doctors inside. As I walked in, I saw Hazel holding the baby. Hazel gasped as she saw Bianca and Leo pass her, and thenI heard another scream. I looked around, thinking that surely someone else must be dying, but then I saw Nico crumpled on the floor. I'm pretty sure I visibly winced at that point. I remember how sad he was when he had to leave Bianca to go to school, and with Percy not there he probably sees nothing but black smoke on the horizon.

Wait, shit. Percy. Where the hell did he get off to? Look, I understand that he's devastated, and he has every right to feel that way. Okay, so his mom died, we've all got dead people. That's no excuse to get everyone else killed along the way!

Hazel

I saw Annabeth fuming, and I placed a hand on her shoulder. But when her head snapped around and she hissed "What?" I wished I hadn't.

"Ummm..." I said, trying to think of an excuse. "Um, can you hold the baby for a minute? I have to call my dad...I promised I would..." I said, realizing this was true. Her eyes softened and she muttered a short "of course" before taking the baby.

"Why?" came a rough voice from behind me. I let out a little yelp and turned around, then realized it was only Nico who seemed to have picked himself up from the floor. "Why are you calling dad?" He said, taking a step closer.

"Um, he, uh, he wanted to know if anything happened...anything bad." Nico glared at me and I quickly said "He said, that, um, I'm quoting him here, 'wherever I go, death and devastation follows, Hazel.' and, uh, he also said something about leaving..."

"Leaving?" Nico said, still glaring.

"Leaving." I confirmed, an apologetic look in my eyes.

"Hazel Levisque if you fucking-"

"I don't have a choice, Nico! Can't you see that? However messed up my family is, they're still my family. I don't want to leave, but I'm not going to abandon them!"

"But you'll abandon me? Aren't I your family?" Nico said, a cold look in his eyes.

"Of course you are! And I love you, they love you!"

"You don't abandon someone you care about."

"Come with us!" I said, so suddenly I wasn't even sure I said it out loud.

"What?" Nico said, still glaring.

"Come on, Nico! What do you have holding you hear?"

"Percy."

"This is all his fault! So fuck Percy!" 

"Maybe I will!"

"Good!" I wasn't even sure what we where talking about at this point.

"Hazel, Percy needs me here! I don't care if this is his fault! He needs me to help him with that child! I'm not going to do to it what my father did to me!"

"Fine!"

"Fine!" And I walked off to call my father.

Percy

I don't know where I am. All I can see is the cursed fog, refusing to let up until the impossible truths are accepted. All I can hear is the sound of heavy rain drops hitting the ground with an world shattering splat. All I can smell is the metallic sent of blood that ever lingers.
