Chapter twenty two

When the girl waved me off, it was really frustrating. "Hey, I know you do have a name. Why can't you just, I don't know, talk to me?" I said rather rudely. She turned to stair at me, her eyes like knives and her posture telling me I said something wrong. No longer did she seem normal or plane, she was her own person.

She grabbed a note book and a pencil and scribbled something on it and threw it at me before she turned away. I looked at the note, it read 'Eco, Eco is my name. Not that you really cared. And since you asked, I can't talk to you because I'm mute!' "Oh god. I'm so sorry. I had no idea." I said.

She looked at me and smiled she mouthed 'it's fine. I get that a lot.' I smiled back at her. "Your not as, well, normal for lack of a better word, as I thought." I said laughing. She laughed as well and grabbed the note pad scribbling something else in it and handing it to me I read it and smiled, it read 'Normality doesn't exist. No one is normal, because everyone is different. No matter your gender, sexuality, or race, you are different from everyone. Because normal implies being the same as everyone, but no two people are the same, so no two people are normal. We're all different, none of us are the same.' I smiled and said "You know, your right."

She smiled at me and mouthed 'so, what's different about you?' I thought for a minute and said "Nothing special really. Family drama, tons of that. I'm gay, so don't get any ideas." I winked at her and Eco just laughed and wrote 'okay, 1) being gay is not different from being straight it's not something that forms differences between people, it's like saying your different cause you have black hair. 2) I've got my eyes on a different man, so no worries.' I laughed as I read it and said "again, you are right. But who is this different man?" Eco blushed and wrote 'his name is Narcissus. He's got just about every girl in school after him.' I look at the note and grimace. Narcissus. Looks like I've met my mach. 

"Narsissa? That lady from Harry Potter? Draco's mom?" I said teasingly. 'No, idiot! Narcissus.' I laugh at the note. "Narcissus. Very manly." I said laughing. 'says the boy named Perseus.' "Are you saying there's something wrong with my name?!" I said pretending to be angry. 'Not necessarily.' I growled a little and said "Wait... Isn't Narcissus that weird boy from Greek mythology? The one who's obsessed with his own reflection? Who would name there son after him?" Eco snickered and wrote 'Look who's talking, Perseus.' I laughed a little and so did she.

 I looked at the clock and said "I promised I'd meat up with my friends by the beach at 1:00 so I should probably get going." Eco smiled and waved. As I was about to leave when I turned back to her and said "Hey, you coming?" She looked at me in surprise and mouthed 'who, me?' while motion to herself. "yes you, come on." I said and motioned for her to follow me.

As we walked outside her hand brushed against mine and she blushed. And she says she's got her eyes on a different man. Not that I have feelings for her or anything.... Maybe a little crush...maybe.... But, it's not like Nico or anything.... Right? Lost in my thought I forgot about Eco, witch was weird since I was thinking about her.

I looked around and I didn't see her. Just a bunch of people bustling around me in uniform all with hair that was black blonde or brown, loose curls or straight, and genuinely the same. In Yancy Academy things where very different. Here everyone looks the same, same hair same clothes. In Yancy you've got people  like Rachel, with her tight red curls and painted on clothes she would stand out in this crowd. But everyone here was just so ordinary.

I looked around again, but Eco was no where to be seen. "Eco!" I called out, no answer. Damn it. "Eco!" I  yelled again, this time people where starring at me. "god damn it Eco, where are you?!" I said turning in a full circle. Eco, I couldn't see her anywhere. I felt slight taping on my shoulder, I turned to see Eco standing there. 'I was right here the whole time.' I read the note and blushed slightly. "Sorry, I..." 'couldn't see me cause I blend in? I get it.'
