Once Hermione was allowed to leave the hospital you all went to look for more information on T.M.Riddle. Ron was skeptical, not wanting to enter the trophy room, but eventually you convinced him. In the room you found Riddle's gold shield, though it didn't say anything of why it was given to him. You also found his name on a magical merit and the list of Head Boys in his decade.
Ron grumbled "He sounds like Percy, prefect, head boy, probably top in every class-"
"You say it like it's a bad thing..." Hermione said sounding slightly hurt.
The school was getting livier. Attacks on Mrs Norris, Colin, Justin and Nick happened month after month, but in January and now February there was no attack. Not to mention the Professor Sprout and Madam Pomfrey informed everyone that Mandrakes were going to be fully grown by the end of May.
You and Harry discussed that maybe the chamber only opened once every fifty years and after a certain amount of attacks it stops.
Ernie Macmillan, along with most of the school, was still convinced Harry and you were responsible and Peeves was not helping constantly recounting the day he saw the two of with Justin's and Nick's bodies, and yelling different rhymes at you while dancing.
Lockhart, the narcissist he was, though his mere presence was what scared the monster away. He bragged both to students and teachers "The culprit must have known it was only a matter of time before I caught him. Rather sensible to stop now, before I came down hard on him.".
Since he made Harry's arm bones disappear, Lockhart kept away from Harry and while annoying, he became relatively harmless. You even thought it would be nice if he stayed on permanently.
He couldn't be worse than Quirrell. That's for sure.
Valentine's day approached fast. You entered the hall and to your surprised found the floor covered in heart shaped confetti which was falling from the ceiling. Flowers of every shade of pink covered the walls. Any decorative items that usually graced the dining tables was now red and overly curly. Even the candles that flew in the air were pink.
Every breakfast food was also either dyed or made in the shape of hearts.
The boys looked sickened, most of all Ron. But you and Hermione found it kind of endearing if not a little cheesy.
You quickly guessed it's Lockhart who took this creative liberty.
He came out in matching pink robes. Some teachers looked kind of amused but most were not. McGonagall was clenching her teeth and Snape had never looked more disgusted with heart confetti stuck in his greasy hair.
"Happy Valentine's day!" Lockhart called "And thank you to the forty-six people who have so far sent me cards! Yes, I have taken the liberty to arranging this little surprise for all of you! And it doesn't end here!"
He clapped and a bunch of dwarfs came out wearing golden wings and carrying harps.
"My friendly, card-carrying cupids! They will be roving around the school today delivering your valentines! And the fun doesn't stop here! I'm sure my colleagues will want to enter into the spirit of the occasion! Why not ask Professor Snape to show you how to whip up a Love Potion! And while you're at it, Professor Flitwick knows more about Entrancing Enchantments than any wizard I've ever met, the sly old dog!"
