"Where's Hermione?" You asked turning around to Ron and Harry who sat behind you in the History of Magic class.
Ron sighed "I think she's trying to read every book in the Library before Christmas."
You frowned "Is she searching for information on the Chamber?"
Harry looked surprised "I never even thought of that, you think she is?"
You nodded unsurely.
History was with Hufflepuffs who started coming in cheerful and in their yellow marked uniforms. Justin Finch-Fletchley, who was becoming more and more a friend to you, Harry, Ron and Hermione, entered the last of his group.
His eyes landed on you. You gave him a small wave, but instead of smiling or waving back he looked very scared. He gripped his book tighter and ran across the class to the very opposite side from you. Harry and Ron looked on with mild interest.
You sighed, feeling your stomach drop.
Ever since the attack on Mrs Norris, more and more people were distancing themselves from you. A lot of students seemed to think because of your houses pure Slytherin lineage and the fact that you were at the scene of the crime, you were the most likely suspect to be the heir. Those that believed it in your year tended to run away or avoid even being near you, while older students would scoff, make comments or plainly ignore you. Justin seemed to be the former.
Harry gave you a sympathetic smile "Ignore him."
You didn't need to tell Harry, Ron or Hermione about what the other students thought and why they started treating you so weirdly, they came up to that conclusion themselves. They could do very little but offer support and defend your honour when necessary.
You crossed your arms over the back of your chair and leaned your chin on them "Ever since that night everyone's been acting weird."
You didn't just mean just the frightened people. Hermione was constantly away, you barely saw her outside of your shared dorm, but you guessed she was out in the library.
"Yeah, Ginny's freaked out," Ron replied "She always did like cats."
Through the door came Hermione. She looked as neat as always and carried her bags and several books with her. She took her regular seat next to you.
"You're almost late." You noticed.
Hermione frowned "Almost. I was just checking something in the library."
Soon Professor Binns flew in through the wall. He was the only ghost professor you had and none of you were sure if he even realized that he had died.
The History classes were always the most boring, and today was no different. Professor Binns opened his notes and began to read in such a monotone and gentle voice that everyone immediately went into dream world.
