Jennie woke up a couple of hours later in the passenger seat of Jisoo's car. She had no idea how she had ended up there. She might have dozen off after Hani told her to lay on the couch while she went to get the bandages for her hand.
"I'm not going to ask you what you were doing at Hani Ahn's house for now" Jisoo said. Jennie didn't know how she managed to always notice whatever happened around her. The girl swore her best friend must have had spider eyes or something like that because there was no way she had seen her waking up.
"But I'm going to, sooner or later and you better not lie to me, Kim. First we have to get our story straight with your parents. So, how did you cut your hand open?"
Even in the utter mess that was the moment, Jennie smiled.
"By touching your jawline, obviously"
"Oh, I see you're back to being funny now. Alright." Jisoo said while brusquely swerving to avoid a hole in the middle of the street.
Jennie didn't answer, she was too busy glaring at the little cat toy glued to the dashboard. Its oversize head moved in a hypnotic pace.
"Spill it, what happened seriously?" Jisoo said, before adding "Please don't tell me it was some kind of sex accident, I don't think I could recover from that"
Jennie was grateful that Jisoo was making fun of the situation. She didn't really have the strength to have another fight with anybody at the moment. Still, she had a few serious questions she wanted to ask her friend. Like how exactly she had ended in her car and how had Hani called her.
So, Jennie explained how she had actually hurt her hand. She just paid attention to avoid saying literally anything that could indicate the real reason she was at Hani's apartment or who Hani truly was. Jisoo knew her as a family friend and Jennie was determined to make it stay that way.
"Well, I'm glad she called Lisa and not your parents then"
Jennie's head turned towards the driving girl. She hit her hand in the process, letting out a hiss of pain as a result.
"What do you mean, she called Lisa?" Jennie asked with utter shock in her voice.
"She called Lisa who called me" Jisoo turned her head, a slick smirk on her face before she added: "What, did you think I magically appeared like the fairy godmother?"
"No, just... how did she know to call Lisa?" Jennie thought aloud. She couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that if Hani had called Lisa because she was Lisa and not just a random number on her phone, then she must have known something about them. She racked her brains trying to remember how many times had Hani and Lisa met and if they had.
She also didn't remember talking that much about her friends with the older girl, too afraid that she'd consider her childish and run away.
"I guess you have to ask Lisa that"
That, Jennie thought, would answer her question. There was one more problem, though: would Lisa talk to her?
"Would you mind dropping me off at hers?"
"Not at all" Jisoo replied. Her tone was serious but she couldn't hide the way the corner of her lips curved up a bit.
Dropping off a battered Jennie at Lisa's house had managed not only to put a smile on Jisoo's face but also to light up a sparkle of hope inside her chest. Things were far from normal, yet she thought they were finally beginning to take a turn. A positive one, hopefully.
So to ride the wave of good feeling, Jisoo decided that she would, too, do something to contribute to it.
There was something so unquestionably stereotypical about Chaeyoung's white fence and overall house that had always given the creeps to Jisoo.
The stone walkway she walked down to was the only thing interrupting the otherwise perfectly curated grass. Once she had reached the front steps of the house, she rang the doorbell.
