"Lisa, I need to tell you something"
They were seated in the same café they always used to go to. It wasn't the prettiest place around but it was cozy and it reminded them of their middle school days when the four of them would hang out there all the time. Lisa would lie if she said she hadn't been just a little bit surprised about Chaeyoung's sudden invite. Nevertheless, there she was, facing a quite frantic looking Chaeyoung who hadn't stopped touching her hair ever since she had taken a seat.
"Shoot"
The blonde girl opened her mouth a few times before talking, looking like she was trying to muster some courage before letting any words come out her mouth. That alarmed Lisa, who had never seen Chaeyoung struggle with telling her something her whole life.
"I think I like girls"
Lisa choked on her drink so hard, some of it flew out from her nose, leaving behind an unpleasant burning sensation in her nostrils.
As soon as she felt like she could finally breathe normally, she looked into Chaeyoung's eyes who were staring back at her with an expectant look. Given the lack of a smile on her face even in front of a situation she usually would have laughed at, Lisa understood that the girl was being serious."You... like girls" she repeated, trying to make sense out of the words.
"I did not see that one coming, to be honest" Lisa said, chuckling slightly thinking how this was the second coming out she had witnessed that week. One, she had not only expected but hoped for relentlessly, the other, though, had truly caught her by surprise.
Lisa's smile was so contagious that it was no surprise when Chaeyoung's lips turned up as well before she let out a joking: "You and I both"
The two of them settled into a comfortable silence, filled with warm smiles and proud grazes. Lisa was cupping her drink with both hands while she beamed at Chaeyoung who seemed to have lost all the previous fear.
"What kind of girls do you like?" Lisa asked the question out of pure curiosity, even though, in the back of her head, with the new found information about her, she had a wild guess about what kind of girls her best friend was into.
Chaeyoung looked deep in thought for a moment, her pensive eyes looking to the left slighlty.
"Cute brunettes. Girls who wear way too oversized clothes. Girls who are funny" Chaeyoung said, moving her straw in a circular motion inside her almost empty cup of frappuccino with an embarrassing obvious grin on her face.
Lisa dramatically brought her hands to her heart, before saying " thank God you said brunette, I thought you were about to do a love confession"
Lisa's ringing laugh resonated though the whole cafè as Chaeyoug's rolled her eyes.
"Don't flatter yourself"
The two were used to exchanging jokes that were borderline between being funny and offensive, but, luckily, they never seemed to take offense on them. It was just how their relationship worked.
"Does the cute, funny brunette who wears oversized clothes know?" Lisa said after the laughters had died down.
She knew who they were talking about, she just thought that saying her name could scare Chaeyoung into not talking anymore.
