Accompanied by the sound of her polyester gown, the fabric rubbing together in a screeching melody, Jennie was running down the hallway trying to reach the bathroom where she knew Lisa was headed.
The blonde had excused herself when the principal had announced that the ceremony was going to start soon so, if anyone had "urgent business to take care of", that was the time to do so. As she watched Lisa stand up from the black foldable chair and, at once, stumble on her gown, she couldn't help but laugh. She took notice of all of Lisa's features as she grinned embarrassed, the way her bangs were now covering up her eyes and her toothy, contagious, smile, as if it was the last chance she had of looking at her like that.
Her eyes stayed on her even when Lisa was already halfway to the school entrance, walking down the perfectly cut grass of the school's yard. She watched her masculine walk, kind of hidden behind the large gown she was wearing, and how she struggled with the thin yellow cord that fell down from her ceremonial hat and into her face.
And that's when she knew she was going to tell her that day. Screw that, she was going to tell her in that exact moment, right before they walked across the stage to get their diplomas, symbolizing the end of one chapter of their lives. Jennie couldn't think of any better way to start a new one.
She was going to do it, she was going to tell Lisa she loved her.
But, running after Lisa seemed a lot easier ( and more romantic ) in her mind. Now, with her awkwardly long dress and her heels that were little to no compatible with running, she realized that, if she ever reached the bathroom, she was going to look like a mess.
The ticketing sound of her shoes in the otherwise quiet hallway mirrored the one of her heart. She felt nervous, yet there was a newfound euphoria inside her that she had never felt before. She felt like, for once, she was finally doing what she really wanted. She was taking her life back, or rather, she was guiding it back to the way it was always meant to be.
That was until an arm yanked her away from her victorious trajectory and, in the few seconds that followed, she stumbled on her feet and had to quickly regain her balance while she was getting dragged elsewhere.
As soon as she realized who had grabbed her, she felt herself getting enraged by the second and she quickly pulled away from the grasp that the intruder had on her arm.
"What do you think that you're doing?" She asked angrily. The skin of her arm tingled from where Taehyung had tightened his hold.
"I could ask you the same thing. The ceremony's about to begin"
Jennie watched annoyed the smirk on his face, letting her face show her interest, or rather, lack of, at his presence. She felt nothing but impatience as she nonchalantly threw a glance at the door.
"I seriously don't have time for this right now, Taehyung I have to go and find-"
But, as soon as she made a move for it, she was once again met with Taehyung's body, standing in front of her and blocking her way.
"Lisa?" The boy was quick to interrupt her, finishing the sentence for her. The smirk on his face had rapidly fallen off, partly because of how the brunette had rejected his attempt at a conversation.
She wasn't a stranger to this kind of behavior from him. It was not the first time that he brought up Lisa into the conversation and each time the veiled tone of jealousy was never missing. What she had not expected, though, was for Taehyung to lay his cards on the table this quickly.
So, she stayed silent, taken aback by a new found aggression in his words.
She slowly took a step away from the boy, hoping the distance could ease up the tense atmosphere that had created around them. Like a fog that could easily blind them, even from apart.
