"Let's stay here and wait for him. It was a tough game."

Jason took his seat with me, his mother, father and Havana. Jason was still upset about losing the game, and about Xavier. This was the first he had seen him since he left without telling anyone. Jason felt a sort of betrayal. If anything was going on with Xavier, Jason would be the first to know.

But I knew due to the circumstances of this situation, Jason had to be left on the bench.

As for Hailey, she had assumed he was staying with me, she said she didn't mind but that he needed to ask next time before vanishing. She had no idea the storm that was about to open above them. A storm she supposedly caused.

The gymnasium emptied. Leaving just us waiting for Xavier.

I eyed the locker room until the door swung open, revealing him and some other teammates. He said his byes, and they headed for the opposite exit as he walked toward us.

Hailey stood, happy to see him.

"Took you long enough, I know you guys didn't win but we can still go out for food."

Xavier placed his duffel on the bleacher and grabbed his backpack. Opening it and grabbing the stack of papers.

"I can't go out wit y'all."

Jason sucked his teeth, while Hailey looked down at Xavier confused.

"I can't come back to the house either."

"And why not?" Hailey asked him.

"Cuz I can't live with a liar." He picked his head up and stared directly at Hailey.

She laughed, confused. "What on earth are you talking about sobrino?"

"Tell me what happened to my mom. The actual story. And maybe I'll think about coming home."

She folded her arms.

"The actual story? The actual story is exactly what you already know. Xavier what....you talked to him didn't you?"

Jason sat up and look between them.

"Yea I did. And he told me a lot. He told me a lot of shit that you seem to have left out-"

"Don't you use that language with me." She said sternly. "I told you not to trust a word he said-"

"See....it wasn't even his words that made me go meet up with him. It was mommy's words. On paper. Letters she sent to him while he was on duty in Afghanistan."

Hailey didn't seem surprised which caused Xavier to laugh.

"But you knew that already. You knew he didn't abandon me, you actually knew him before mommy did. Before you met Tío. Right? Y'all had a lil fling going on."
