"Apartment was empty." Officer Jensen told us.
Disappointed looks crossed all of our faces. She really got away.
"Silver Lining, there were 2 fresh pregnancy tests in the bathroom. Both negative."
I felt Xaviers body relax. I knew that was making him paranoid so to know she wasn't pregnant, was definitely relieving. But she still had caused so much trauma to him.
"For protocol, I have to ask you. If by any chance she pops up again and we get her, would you be willing to do an anonymous ID in a line up? This is not a commitment for you to press any charge or stand trial."
He sighed before nodding quietly.
Officer Jensen nodded and grabbed her papers.
"You all get home safely. Mr. Towns, if you need any counseling, I can leave you with some phone numbers."
"I'm good." He said quickly. I looked down at my thumbs as Jensen left the room.
"Why'd you say no?" I asked softly.
"I'm good."
"Xavier you're not good."
"I don't wanna have to re-live my whole mess of a life, explaining it to a new person. When I come back to Texas in March to get ready for us and the twins. I'll go see Polly. But I'm not getting no new therapist out here." He said calmly. Ending the conversation as he got up from his seat and left the room.
I huffed and got up slowly. Jason coming to my side to assist me.
"I gotchu sis." He paused. "Look, I'm sure he can work his way through it for 2 more months."
"I'm just worried about him."
"You got every right to be. But we gotta just hope he can keep himself together. It's nothing I haven't seen him do before."
I sighed and rubbed my palms against my thighs.
"Come on. He prolly outside waiting on us."
