I wipe the diner counter clean with a clean damp cloth I walk into the kitchen cleaning the stove. it's night the only light is the dim light coming from the lights hanging from the ceiling. I'm on night shift in the small diner in New York the diner empty the sound of 'Moonlight Cocktil from Glenn Miller'Plays from the jukebox in the corner of the room
The bell on the door chimes and footsteps fills the air over the quite music. "I'll be there in a moment"I pick up a note pad from of the kitchen counter, I walk through the kitchen door into the diner room I take my pen out of my pocket
I stop at the counter I look up there sat a man about my age mid twenties with a cowboy hat placed on the top of his head and a leather jacket fitting perfectly around his body, A chess board in front of him he places pieces on the board
"What can I get you sir?"he looks up meeting my eye contact "a coffee please" "Anything else?"
"No thanks"I give him a small smile, I boil the water before picking up the coffee pot pouring it into a coffee cup, I place the cup in front of him he's now taken his hat off and placed on the stool next to him, he's moves his black Rook to F8 blocking his king
"I wouldn't of moved that since your king will now be in checkmate because queen moves from G4 to G7 blocking your king into the corner even if king takes queen your rook takes king leaving you in checkmate"He looks up at me then back to the board
"Where'd you learn to play?"He looks back up at me "Self taught,I read magazine and books about the games and the tournaments"he rests his head onto his hand "You want a game?"he gestures to the board "Okay" We play for about an hour before I put him into checkmate (Y/n-White/Benny-Black)

He looks up from the board to me "What's your name?" "Why do you care?"He smirks "I want to know the name of the girl I just lost a chess game with"
"Y/n Y/L/n,what about you?" "Benny,Benny Watts,do you want to go out after your work?" "Are you asking me on a date?"
"I guess I am,what do you say?" "How do I know your not going to kill me"he chuckles "Why would I play an hour of chess with the person I'd kill"
"That's what all killers say as a distraction to lour the victims closer"he laughs "So do you want to go out or not?"I look on the clock on the wall "My shift finishes in a few minutes we can maybe do something then if your up for it,or is that to soon for your murderous plan?"he smirks picking up his hat
"All right you decide where we go"He puts the hat on his head "Okay I have an idea"i walk through the kitchen door I take my apron off hanging it on my hook, I put my coat on and grab my handbag I walk back to Benny, I see the chessboard away and a bag on his shoulder a small amount of money on the counter
"No no it's okay I won't tell"I slide the money back to him "Are you sure?"I nods he takes the money back putting if In his pocket We walk to the door I turn off the lights I lock the door behind me We walk down the path in comfortable silence
"So where are we going?" "You'll see"we walk to the park my favourite place to go We walk alone the side of the small lake "You're really good at chess"I brake the silence
"I would hope I am considering I'm the Us champion"I look over at him "You're the Us champion?" "Yep and you bet me I'm not sure how but you did"I giggle we walk around the park for a few hours talking about ourselves and our life
it starts to pour down with rain very heavily we laugh as we hide under a tree "My apartment is only a street away if we can make a run for it we'll be there in a few minutes" "Let's do it"I hold my hand out for him he smiles taking it
"Ready,three. two. one go!"We run down the street Benny slips but catches himself I giggle we get to a small staircase, he unlocks the door that's at the bottom and walk inside the apartment is small but nice and cozy he shuts the door
"You can your jacket there" "Is it okay if I get changed I'm drenched"I take my jacket off putting it on a hook "Uh yeah you can change in my room"He points to a blurred glass door "Thanks"I walk onto the room closing the door behind me, there's a bed against the wall with a bed side table next to it and a wardrobe at the end of the bed
I take out my extra pair of shorts and a top from out of my handbag I take my work dress off I put my dry clothes on I put my dress in my bag I walk out the bedroom Benny sitting at the table with a mug in front and across from him and a radio next to the mugs
he turns his head looking at me as I put my bag at the door "I made you a coffee"I sit down across from him holding the mug in both hands "Thank you"I take a sip of the coffee "You should probably stay till the storm passes" "Storm?"He nods
"Yeah the radio said while you were changing,listen"he turns the radio on '-The storm has high winds and terrible thunderstorms unsafe to leave homes high risk of injuries so stay in your homes till this storm passes-"He turns the radio off "I guess we're stuck together then"he chuckles "I guess so"
