Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
If you can't trust the livin' baby who can you trust?

(Y/n)'s POV:

Today I have a free day, meaning I get to spend the evening with my little sister. She's not too little now, but I'll always get the satisfaction of saying she's the littler one.

We were currently in my room playing video games, to which I had won the previous race. "Wanna do a rematch?" I gloated, doing a shimmy with my shoulders.

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Sure, and you can kick my ass again."

"Don't put it on me. No one's bounding you to Yoshi." I stood up when I realized we were running low on food. "You can choose the next cup. I'll get more pretzels."

As if on cue, someone rang the doorbell repeatedly, followed by severe knocks. "And I'll get the door," Cassie remarked.

While I was pouring the pretzels on the bowl, I heard the door close, but no mention of who it was. That's weird.

"Cassie, who is it?" I yelled, three pretzels crunching on my mouth. No response. I swallowed. "Cas, who's at the door?" Still, no response, except a soft sobbing. Now I have to check it out.

When I emerged from the kitchen, I observed she was hugging a person. It was a man, and he was shocked... I think. The door made it hard to see.

"What's going..." I demanded, then I froze once I realized who it was. No way this is happening. "...on."

"(Y/n)?" my dad questioned, tears on the brim of his eyes.

I dashed to him. "Dad!"

He caressed the back of our heads, then let go to look at our broken faces. "You're both so big!" he said between laughs. "And, bee, what happened to your hair?"

We brought his red wagon full of stuff inside, hoping to know more of his whereabouts and tell him how much we missed him. Although I had dreamt of similar occurrences happening, the pieces did not fit right with me. "I don't get it. I— we thought you were dead. No one was in the van. How are you here? — Not that I'm not glad you're here."

My dad sighed, sadness lingering in his voice. "I was in the Quantum Realm, but Hope, Hank, and Janet were supposed to pull me out."

I blinked rapidly. "Who's Janet?"

"Hope's mom," my sister clarified.

"Oh."

Like if he had consumed a mouthful of sugar, my dad was bouncing on his feet. "So where are the others? My name was at the memorial, so I came here as fast as I could. I'm so confused. What's going on? It looks like a ghost town out there."

"I mean, it kind of is, dad. It's been 5 years since the fight with Thanos," Cas rubbed his shoulder trying to calm him down.

He flinched. "Thanos?"

I clicked my tongue. The pure mention of his name brought me a bitter taste. "I'll explain later."

"Sure, sure, sure..... So Hope is...?" The cup of water on his hand shivered. I understand he's eager, but wow... he's on another level of anxious.

Hating the phrase we've had to repeat to ourselves and others, Cassie vaguely stated, "No longer with us."

He frowned, the happiness draining out of him. "We have to get her back."
