Nowhere to run, no one to blame
I'm just a puppet in a bad man's gameBleecker Street. We meet again. Now in the proper timeline.
As the big ass doors magically opened, we were met by a blast of cold, frosty air. Our feet crunched against the layer of snow that blanketed the Sanctum. Even tiny snowflakes plummeted from the top. The rooftop where Dr. Banner and I meet The Ancient One was nothing compared to the size and beauty of the inside.
"Um. Hi," Peter greeted the two people shoveling in the corner. They froze in terror (pun not intended). "Hi? We're, uh—"
"The most famous people in the world, I know," interrupted Wong, one of the most powerful sorcerers I know. Well, it's not like I have met plenty. Just two. "Try not to slip, we don't have liability insurance."
I wiped off the layer of snow that had accumulated on the upper part of my hoodie. "Is all this for a holiday party?"
"No, one of the Rotunda Gateways connects to Siberia. A blizzard blasted through."
Another gush of air, now coming from the huge stairway, revealed Dr. Strange, the second wizard I talked about. He was wearing a jacket and clutching a mug of hot cocoa.
"Because someone forgot to cast the monthly maintenance spell to keep the seals tight," he sassed. He had to gain some higher ground back because he previously almost slipped.
Wong placed his hands on his hips, acting all dad-like. "That's right, he did, because he forgot I now have higher duties—"
"'Higher duties?!'"
"The Sorcerer Supreme has higher duties, yes."
Peter and I shifted our gaze between the sorcerers. "Wait, I thought you were the Sorcerer Supreme—"
"No, he got it on a technicality 'cause I blipped for five years," he responded.
"Oh."
I cleared my throat. "Well, congratulations.... and my condolences."
The Doctor just took a small sip of his mug, trying to ignore how oddly I had reacted to the situation. "If I'd been here, then I would have—"
"Burned the place down." Damn, guess Wong doesn't have patience for Strange's pettiness. He went straight to scolding the other two guys from before. "You two! No one said, 'Stop shoveling!'"
Now that it was the three of us, he guided us toward the fireplace."So, Peter, (Y/n). To what do I owe the pleasure?"
As we trailed behind, my boyfriend tugged at my arm for help. The puff of smoke from the cold spewed from my mouth. "I... actually have no clue what he's planning. Go ahead, love."
He tripped in the snow, grabbing my arm for stabilization. "Right, um... I'm really sorry to bother you, sir, but—"
"Please, we saved half the universe together, I think we're beyond you calling me sir." He used magic to light a fire, also giving us a forced smile.
"Okay, uh... Stephen."
The Sorcerer squinted. "That feels weird. But I'll allow it."
"Uh... When, um... when Mysterio revealed my identity, my entire life got screwed up. And, I was wondering... I mean, I don't really know if this would actually work, but I was wondering if... maybe you could go back in time and make it so that he never did?"
The way he was standing, his lack of smiling... How hard I knew these past couple of months had been for him. I admire him so much, especially because he placed his passion for helping others on hiatus. Well, he helped in different ways; ones that didn't require climbing or shooting webs. For now, the safety of other citizens resided in the fact that he remained put.
