I got what I wanted
I paid every cost
I'd give it all back
To get back what I've lost

"What the hell is this?" Falcon questioned.

"FRIDAY, what are they firing at?" I didn't hear FRIDAY's answer due to the fact that a ball of light entered the atmosphere. It sliced Thanos' big ship in two, making the rockets turn themselves off.

Well, I'll be damned, it's Miss Danvers! She continued breaking the ship from the inside, which would help us a ton over here on the ground.

The remaining pieces of the ship crashed on the water. One less factor to worry about. "Danvers, we need an assist here."

She landed not so far away from us. Okoye and I walked over to them, determined to help however we could. Peter's head popped up from a hole; the poor guy was hugging the gauntlet with all of his strength. Another batch of cuts and dust coated his face.

Panting, he passed the stones to Miss Danvers. "I don't know how you're gonna get it through all that."

In the second Okoye and I arrived, Wanda landed using her red powers. "Don't worry."

A fricking pegasus carrying Thor's friend appeared too. Okay, so we're good to go. "She's got help," Okoye reassured.

Hope, Mantis, princess Shuri, Nebula, Gamora, and even Pepper arrived at the perfect moment. We had the whole package deal. We've so got this.

Before rushing into this portion of the battle, I winked at Peter. Through his dirt and blood-covered face, he managed to put on a soft smile.

Wait, wait wait... I quickly theorized... Could I do the thing Wanda was doing? Like, if I can make light become weapons, can the light itself be a weapon? Does that make sense? Guess we'll find out.

"This one's for you, Nat!" I yelled. I pulled my hands back closer to my chest, then stretched my arms towards the enemies. A beaming light, like I wanted to create, shot from both my palms. It was closer to Tony's when he's Iron Man, but it was coming from my body and the color yellower.

I'm gonna rest after this— I'm getting a headache from all the force placed on creating the energy blasts. And I might be overexaggerating, but the bleeding coming from my ribs was starting to become very unpleasant.

Miss Danvers flew through the battle with no problem until Thanos' blade shot the van. The hit caused an imperfect explosion. Imperfect for us, I mean.

The quantum tunnel is useless; gone. What are we supposed to do now?

The aliens who were striking us prevented me from grasping what was going on at the side. I saw a mix of light and punches, though; fighting was happening on that side. It was hard to distinguish each hero since I was too busy fighting off creatures. I switched up the blasts to a sword again, given it would wear me out less.

An alien began yanking my arm out of its socket. Through the screaming, the stabbing coming from my light weapon tore him apart.

Thanos' groans emitted from where the gauntlet had ended up, but not the 'yay, we're winning' kind of groans. He had just placed the Power Stone back into the golden glove on him. His veins glowed in the six colors, just like Bruce's before he snapped.

I wouldn't make it on time. I was too far!

Tony, as a last attempt, dragged off the gauntlet, only to be punched off seconds later.

No, no, no, no, no.

"I am.... inevitable." A satisfied smirk crept upon his raised face, so I decided to internally accept we had lost. Nobody else seemed to notice the tragic event, which made it ten times worse.

He snapped his fingers... except nothing happened. Thanos seemed just as shocked as I was. I squinted my eyes to focus. The stones were not on the glove.

I turned to Tony, struggling on his knees. He was carrying the power of six Infinity Stones with no help whatsoever. He's insane! As the blast of energy coursed through his system, he responded, "And I... am... Iron Man."

When he snapped, everything turned white for half a moment. It felt like it was eternal, to be frank, as silence and tranquility roamed for that half a second.

After being blinded, the alien's body implanted on my sword turned to dust. Air did its work and made the tiny specks scatter throughout the land.

Each one of Thanos' army did the same thing; they were quickly insignificant ashes. Even the ships became nonexistent. Through exhaustion, I analyzed the facts. Did we just win?

I wanted to scream, dance, do all the things I had forced myself to let go of that were fun. We did it! We saved everyone!

However, my celebration was cut extremely short when a crucial thought surfaced. What happened to Tony Stark?

Ignoring the tiredness, I sprinted as fast as I could over to his aid. His body had collapsed next to a pile of debris. Rhodey, who had jumped in before me, had a hand on his cheek.

My throat automatically closed up. He looked horrible, broken, whatever bad adjectives you can come up with. A huge part of his body was burned off. Wrapped in deep wounds and dried blood, his bloodshot eyes made me tremble.

He can't die, can he? A trillion words desired to spill from my mouth, but the only four that came out were, "Thank you... Love you." I quickly hugged him, too. He didn't need to say it back, just the weak smile on his fading face made me feel safer.

I've never been one to freeze or close up in dangerous situations. This one.... this one felt different.

At this point, my tears dripped past my jawline. Was I making sobbing-related sounds? I can't really tell, honestly. My hands were two balls of glowing fists, containing the grief I was experiencing.

We couldn't do anything.

"Mr. Stark? Hey— Mr. Stark?" Peter appeared on my side. Tony, who was disappearing right in front of us, did not respond. "Can you hear me? It's Peter. Hey. We won, Mr. Stark— we won, Mr. Stark. We won. You did it, sir. You did it."

Pepper helped him get up as he had stopped pretending to be okay. He could stand up by himself.

"Come here," I whispered to him. He engulfed me in a hug, his sobs echoing on my ears. The embrace slowly became tighter, as if that could somehow bring him back.

"I'm sorry, Tony," he finished saying.

Meanwhile, Pepper gave her final goodbyes. FRIDAY announced his life functions were critical, meaning this was it. I can't believe it ends like this.

"Tony. Look at me." Forcing herself to be brave in the midst of pain, she smiled. "We're gonna be okay. You can rest now."

And he stopped moving. And the arc reactor on his chest stopped sparkling.
