Chapter 23: FD Bitch

Rookie's P.O.V.

I opened my eyes again to a dust cloud in front of my eyes.

I shouldered my way out of the make-shift den into a world of charred wood and smoke.

The trees had been burned down and ash squished through my spread out human hands. Why can't I just be a wolf again? Was that too much to ask?

I looked around. There was no cover and most of the trees were smoldering away or already disintegrated into ash. There was no cover and someone could have seen me from sky lengths away.

I didn't know what to do. The Luna, Aspen, and Leon were gone, Chris was coming for me, and I was still a stupid human.

'Try and sense him,' Leon's voice echoed in my mind.

What? Purposely look for Chris? That was insane! For the last 5 years I've been running from him, why would I look for him?

Then again, I was lost, alone, and hungry. I didn't have the willpower to go on. It was stupid. Ever since I left the pack, my sole purpose was to take care of Zurjo, but he's gone too.

'Worth a shot,' I grumbled and sat on a boulder. What have I got to lose?

I closed my eyes and sat how I wanted to sit and breathed deeply.

The day wore on and I didn't move. What was the point - OH MY GOSH I'M THINKING SUICIDAL NOW.

Suddenly, my body tensed and I immediately knew where Chris was. He was at some kind of science lab. Alarms were going off and - the others were there!

I opened my eyes again and thought. Why would I want to save someone that had just talked smack about me? The Aspen had been ok I guess but the Luna didn't even like me. I heard all those conversations she's been having with the Aspen about leaving me behind!

Resentment boiled up inside of me. She didn't even want to help me with those hunters, if it hadn't been for the Aspen, I'd be dead by now. I jumped off the rock and pelted in the direction where everyone was.

Luna's P.O.V.

I panted under the weight of Aspen. Leon wasn't being much help because of his arm, maybe shooting him wasn't such a great idea.

We turned a corner and stopped dead.

Men all in black were standing armed, Chris at the front of them with a smirk on his face.

'Going so soon?' he drawled.

I didn't know what to do, I couldn't fight all these men at once! Not to mention Chris was here and he had fucking supernatural powers!

For some reason I wish Rookie was here, then I froze.

That's because she was.

Rookie was sitting next to Chris, glaring at me with her weird, golden-brown eyes and wolf ears and strange, black wings.

What the hell was she doing on Chris' side!?

Maybe she was undercover and was going to attack him any minute now.

'I see you've met my dear daughter,' Chris smirked and patted Rookie on the head like she was a harmless kitten. She cringed but didn't do anything. 'Shame how things had to end for you, you three would have made an amazing trio,'

'What the fuck are you talking about?' I snapped.

What the hell was he talking about? What end? Rookie was still on our side!... right? Right?!

If that bitch attacks us I'm gonna kill her and feed her to the wolves that raised her!

'You made a mistake,' Rookie growled at me. What the hell? 'I'm no mangy mutant wolf "thing", I have a messed up family but at least I'm loyal to the people that helped me.'

Loyal? LOYAL?! This asshole was betraying us and she thinks she's LOYAL?!

'That's another mistake,' she hissed through her sharp teeth. 'You never did anything for me.'

At that moment my stomach dropped and the past week flashed through my mind. I didn't take that bullet out of her shoulder, I only gave her shelter because Aspen told me to, I only helped her against those hunters because Aspen would have buried me alive.

I never helped Rookie, but Rookie had helped me. Once, but that is more than I ever did for her.

When Chris attacked, she put herself between me and him.

But I couldn't help the fucking anger growing inside me. Rookie was a fucking bitch that deserved to die a miserable and shitty death - but that cold look in her eyes sent shivers down my spine.

'You're always being an F.D. to me,' Rookie said.

What the hell is an F.D?
