Chapter 21: The Poisoned Snake

Aspen's P.O.V.

My eyes slowly opened and I saw a bright yellow light shining through some trees. I felt a tight rope around my wrists and ankles and I was sitting on the dirt floor, leaning against a boulder. As I looked around I saw Luna and Leon, tied up and leaning against two other boulders. Where's Rookie?

"Luna! Leon! Wake up!" I said. "And Rookie isn't here!"

Luna's eyes started to open and so did Leon's

"What's happening?" Luna asked.

"What do you think?" I asked, sarcastically.

"We got kidnapped," Leon said.

"Oh yah." Luna said.

"Do you guys know where Rookie is?" I asked.

"Do you think we know where she is?" Lun replied and rolled her eyes.

"No, but I was just making sure! But I shouldn't have asked you! You don't even care about her." I said.

"Hey! You were trash talking about her too last night!" Luna said angrily.

"Girls, stop fighting and let's figure out a way to get out of here!" Leon said.

"There is no way out." A man with a mask covering his mouth said and came through a door in another boulder I didn't even see.

"Where did that door come from?" I asked. "And who the hell are you?"

"You guys are in a simulator right now." the man said. "You can turn it off!" He yelled.

All of a sudden, all of the trees and the sun went away, and we were left with a white room with a door and black, stained glass windows. The boulders we were leaning on stayed though, except now they were plastic.

"What the fuck?!" me and Luna said, in unison.

"Oh yah, you asked a second question. We are the Darkness! And this is a snake!" the man said, pointing at the door.

We all looked at each other and then at the door, where we saw a man in a white coat, pushing a cage with a black snake with yellow and red spots in it.

"What the fuck does a snake have to do with anything?!" Luna yelled.

"Actually, the snake has everything to do with you." the man said.

"In what fucking way?" I asked.

"In the way that we are going to make the snake bite one of you two girls, and you have to decide who! Oh, and the snake's teeth are lined with a disease we created. It is called the disease of darkness! Whoever gets bitten will feel fine at first, but then eventually get worse and worse and worse until they die. And the only antidote for this poison is in this bottle." the man said and held up a small glass bottle with a distinct pink liquid in it.

"Oh. . ." Luna said.

"You guys get to decide who gets the bite! But, if you take too long, we choose! And you won't like that decision!" the man said and left the room with the guy in the white lab coat.

"Who is it gonna get the bite?" Leon asked.

"Shut up! No one is! We will get out of here before it happens!" I yelled. "But, if we can't... I will."

"WHAT THE HELL! ASPEN, YOU ARE NOT GETTING BITTEN BY THAT THING!" Luna yelled.

"Yes, I am! You hate snakes as it is. I will get bitten, but only if we can't escape!" I negotiated.

"Well, then we better escape!" Luna said.

Everyone went silent for a moment.

"How do we escape?" Luna asked.

"I don't know, does anyone have anything sharp?" I asked.

"I have a pocket knife. But, it is in my pocket." Leon said.

"Then get it out of your pocket!" Me and Luna yelled in unison.

Leon started wiggling and struggling, but after a few minutes he got the knife and cut himself free, then cut Luna free, and then finally cut me free.

We all ran to the door, but to our surprise, it was locked.

"Now, how do we get out of here?" I said.

Then the door opened and the man came back in.

"Did you guys decide?" he asked.

"Wait! Aren't you gonna ask how we got out of the ropes?" Leon asked.

"No, for one thing we have security cameras, and second do you think we wouldn't search you. We knew you had that knife and we knew that you would use it." he said.

"Oh." we all said in unison.

"Well, have you guys decided on who dies?" the man asked, bluntly.

"We decided on. . .me." I said, and everyone went silent.

"Okay then, men get them them ready for the attack!" tha man said, with a big smirk.

"What do you mean. Doesn't it just bite her quick and done?" Luna asked.

"Oh no! I like to see suffering, and would that be suffering?" he asked.

"Well then, she isn't doing it!" Luna yelled.

"Luna, it is fine!" I said. "You have been through so much, and I can't be the one who decides to give you more suffering."

Three men grabbed us and dragged us to another room. This room had one chair in the middle and two spectator chairs. The men shoved Luna and Leon into the spectator chairs and tied the up and then they shoved me to the middle chair and strapped me in.

The guy in the lab coat wheeled the snake in.

"Aspen! Please!" Luna begged, but I ignored her.

The guy grabbed the snake and put it on my arm The snake slithered up to my neck and bit into it. I started screaming in pain and Luna started crying.

My neck started throbbing, and I could feel the fangs in my skin, biting harder and harder! Then the guy grabbed the snake and it released my neck The pain was excruciating, but then it stopped. I felt fine. But, then like a bolt of lightning hitting my neck it came back and I once again screamed in pain and tears started dripping down my cheek
