Hey guppies, I decided to post my form for becoming a merman onto wattpad because I thought you guys might want to know what I did for my previous chapter of Cover All Bases Before You P-Shift!
In BOLD will be the questions and in ITALICS will be my responses! I hope this helps :)
First and foremost choose your species of mer:
- Open-Ocean merman
Now for the questions:
1) What will your mer eat?
Crustaceans, seaweed, fish, any food available in the sea. On land, seafood based diet is best to maintain constant m-shift. Fruits and vegetables will also be consumed to maintain healthy diet with vitamins and minerals.
2) How will you diet affect your mer's body?
Diet will not affect my merman body appearance
3) Salt-water or fresh-water?
Definitely salt-water
4) What is the best tail structure for your mer's survival?
Long and strong with lots of flexibility for quick escapes. The fluke will be large as long distance travel is to be expected with chosen species of mer. The fluke spanning will also be voluntarily flexible for tight-space swimming.
5) Tail colour best suited for your chosen environment?
Countershaded blues and teals for camouflage in the open ocean. Darker blue on top, fading into teal on the sides then light blue on the bottom.
6) What other characteristics will you have ( things that affect your hands, face, ears, etc.)?
Webbed hands for water propulsion when swimming, third eyelid (nictitating membrane) as eye protection while swimming, finned ears for better hearing, scales on face and parts of arms and chest for extra protection, fins on arms for better manoeuvrability underwater, gills located in the nasal cavity, ears and on neck to breathe underwater, claws/longer, sharper and hardened nails on hands to help with self defence and hunting, sharp, pointed teeth to eat meat and assist with self defence/offence.
7) will you have gills or lungs?
Gills are necessary, especially for long periods of swimming and hiding.
8) What changes to your physical appearance will you make e.g. hair, eyes, etc.
Eyes will be gold, hair will stay the same, no other changes will be made.
9) How will your mer act? What behavioral changes will occur when you become a mer?
More or less social than I am now, depending on what friends I make within the pod. Hunting behaviours will be adopted as a needed trait for survival if lone swimmer.
10) How will you drink water? Osmosis (like an amphibian where you absorb the water through your skin) or normally?
I will drink through my mouth and filter out the salt through my gills.
11) Where will you live for most of your life (affects your mer greatly)?
I plan on purchasing a home near the beach for easy access to the ocean, however I plan on spending as much time in the ocean as I can (desired time of 3/4 of my life).
12) What skin colour and type is best suited for your environment?
My skin is already tan so no skin colour change, slightly thicker skin will be necessary to survive harsher waters as well as avoid deadly stinging from jellyfish or other potential harm.
13) Now this one is rather awkward (sorry) but how will you sexually relieve yourself/relieve yourself of waste?

14) Will you live in a pod or alone?
I will try to find or create a pod when I'm at sea, otherwise my friend group on land is my "land pod".
15) Will your mer migrate?
As my food will migrate to warmer waters, I will possibly have to follow the food and migrate as well. Otherwise, I'll eat what's available.
Once you have answered these questions go and draw a picture of your mer form with as much detail as you can about all the features you want to have! (It doesn't have to be perfect, just try your best!) Here's mine (it's only black and white because I forgot my colours):
