CHAPTER 27 - TWO

AMARA

It's getting hot and beads of sweat traveled from my face to my chest. The transparent tube is so small that I can't even breathe properly from the inside and my objective for today is to keep myself in it for five long hours. That's how intensive they put me for today's activity.

Today was training day. Since may ilang linggo kaming pahinga mula sa mission, napagdesisyonan kong sumabak na lang sa training grounds ng ORION.

The underground building of the organization still amuses me. It was located under the busy streets and business establishments along Metro Manila. No one will even think na ang ilalim ng kalsadang tinatapakan nila ay napakalaking basement ng mga agents? Hindi lang iyon, may mga tunnels pang galing sa iba't ibang parte ng Luzon na mga agents din ang gumagamit lalo na pagdating sa missions.

"Thirty more minutes, Agent Zero," said the speaker from the outside.

I rolled my eyes from my codename. It's Nikkolai's agent name and they named me after him.

"I can do this," bulong ko at iniwasang tapunan ng tingin ang lalaking kanina pa mainit ang titig sa akin mula sa itaas na palapag.

There's an elevated platform on the top floor where agent's spectator can monitor the movements of the agents below. Sila ang naka-assign na magbigay ng task or activity para sa training at sila rin ang magrerecord at review ng mga dapat at hindi mo dapat ginawa habang nasa gitna ng task. And one of those spectators is my husband, Nikkolai, who is now currently watching me like a hawk.

"Just click the button on your suit if you can't take the challenge anymore, wife." Paalala niya bago ako sumabak sa unang training ko. And the first try was intense already!

I limit my movements in order for me to last longer. The more I move, the more I get exhausted. Walang ano mang butas ang tube kung saan nila ako ipinasok. The only way to move on the next level of the training is to finish this. I haven't asked them why the transparent tube was the first level and hell an agent need to stay inside it for like... five hours!

I closed my eyes and tried to imagine anything wonderful in the past. Aaliwin ko ang sarili ko gamit ang imahinasyon para hindi maisip ang kalagayan ko ngayon. I recalled my childhood memories with my parents. Lahat ng mga ngiti ng aking ama at ina, inalala ko. The thought somehow calmed me inside. Kahit na tagaktak na ang pawis ko, naging kalmado naman ang paghinga ko.

"How's her status?" I heard Nikkolai asked the agent that was assigned to me. Kanina pa siya aligaga sa task na binigay sa'kin. I can't help but to stifle a smile because of him. Damn. I think I need to focus more on my imagination than my husband's slightly panicking on his seat.

Few more minutes and the timer rang. Agad na naramdaman ko ang pagbaba ng transparent tube sa grounds. Other tube followed mine too. Marami akong kasabay ngayon sa pagte-training at kabilang na roon si Nate, Helion, and Marco. Farrei haven't come back yet at mukhang marami itong ginagawa sa kanyang kumpanya.

Automatic na nagbukas ang tube. Lumabas na ako. Hindi ko na alam kung makakatagal pa ako ng ilang minuto pa sa loob.

"I didn't know that you are way better than the other girl agents who tried this task," lumapit sa akin si Nate. Nginitian ko naman ang lalaki at sabay kaming pumunta mga benches kung nasaan ang aming mga gamit.
