Already her sisters wings were fluttering again, and soon Ahsoka was alone again.
Not for long, though. And she knew that. Her sister would be back.
And until then, Ahsoka was weaving.
She smiled and played around with the stalks.
The nest had to grow big.
After all, neither of them was small, and Ahsoka's animal sister was already half the size of her mother.
It was going to be hard work.
In the evening, they celebrated moving out with an especially large portion of roots, and fell asleep snuggled close to each other.
It was nice not to be alone Ahsoka thought, and turned to her sister's silhouette before finally visiting the land of dreams.
It was a realm that stood in stark contrast to Ahsoka's golden reality.
For the dream world made no distinction between past and present.
It reminded her.
Over and over again of what had happened.
It brought her back to the cell, with the dark man.
It took her back to Tatooine, and put the shock collar back on her.
It let the wounds rip open again, that were finally healing.
Only it never took her to the ship.
Never... Except now.
Ahsoka didn't know she was dreaming when she opened her eyes in a ship. She was sitting on a crate, grinning.
Across from her sat Rex, his helmet off, and also laughing.
"Good one kid" he commented on her joke, shaking his head in amusement.
"Now it's your turn" she retorted, not planning on it.
"I don't know any jokes by heart. You know I don't. All I know is situation comedy." the clone replied
And gave her a friendly punch in the side.
Ahsoka stretched, and was about to answer something when an alarm rang off.
"Looks like there's stress," Rex noted, and Ahsoka's com beeped.
"Snips?" her master's voice rang out.
"Yep?" she replied questioningly.
"Grab a squadron and fly out. You must protect the civilian cruiser, at all costs. And take Rex with you, have him watch your back. And watch his back."
"Yes sir," Rex agreed.
"Sure master" Ahsoka replied and smiled.
Then she jumped off the crate and ran to one of the metal fighters.
With a few quick grabs, she had jumped up, and slid into the seat.
"Let's go guys!" she called out to the crowd.
Everyone else was already in their fighters as well.
"Everyone ready?"
"Gold 2 ready."
"Gold 3 ready."
The entire squadron reported ready.
Ahsoka launched her fighter and the others followed her as she flew out into the universe.
She closed her eyes and felt the Force, and connected with it, directing it.
Immediately, the energy obeyed her and followed her command.
It chased toward the nearest Vulture, bore into its systems, and then its parts flew through space.
She shot through the battlefield, and everything was so familiar and simple.
She belonged here, and she did what she could.
She could protect.
Not a single shot hit the civilian cruiser that day.
