The next day, Thomas found the berries ripe.
He continued to work alone in the field and sent Luca and Ahsoka to pick them.
The 'berries' were as big as Ahsoka's hand.
They actually weren't even berries either, they were just called that.
Now the two of them stood there, picking the fruit and putting it in the basket next to them.
Luca had explained to her the order in which the grown foods ripened.
First the grain.
Then the 'berries'.
Then the little brown things that grew in the ground in the field behind the house. Ahsoka couldn't remember their name.
And then the appad. The fruits that grew on the trees behind the last field.
That had also been those that Ahsoka had picked on the giant tree.
Only that the trees here were smaller. She had already climbed up with Luca.
She had asked him why they were already ripe in the forest.
As it seemed, they grew twice a year. Once in spring, so they were ripe in early summer, and once in fall, so you could pick them at the beginning of winter.
"Winter is great" he explained to her, "I mean it's freezing. But there's not much to do except chop wood, so we can play all the time. The lake is mostly frozen over, so it's great to slide on. And once everything here is snowed in, I'll show you how to build a snowman."
Ahsoka raised her head. "A man made of snow? How do you make that? Why do you do something like that?"
Luca laughed. "It's not a real man. You put three big snow balls on top of each other make a face in it with stones and put a hat on top. And for the arms, I usually use sticks."
"Yeah but why?"
"It's fun, you'll see"
"Okay"
Ahsoka shook her head and picked another 'berry'
"The basket is full" she then stated.
"Whose turn is it to get more?"
"Me"
Ahsoka took the basket and went into the barn, put the 'berries' away with the pile of others and went back with the basket.
The light of the sun played around her lekku, and she looked smiling in the direction from which the light grayish glow of its light came. She was standing low. It was really getting to be winter.
Soon she would find out what these snowmen were all about.
She was already looking forward to it.
Luca always had fun ideas.
She didn't know how much time the two of them had spent executing them.
The best one was when they climbed a cliff.
Luca had been unsure at first if he could take Ahsoka on it, but it had turned out that Ahsoka was fine.
The wall was overgrown with moss, so Ahsoka had been able to find her way without any problems. Even if the moss was so thin that Luca hadn't even noticed it.
She had finally run straight off of the rock when they were at the top and had given Luca half a heart attack with it until he had noticed that the jump did nothing to Ahsoka.
