He had given them an hour.
One hour to decide which one of them had to carry the punishment for Lou's escape attempt.
Both wanted to protect the other.
"It was my escape attempt, so I will take the consequences," Lou argued.
"But I will not let him hurt you," Ahsoka replied.
And so it went on.
A whole hour.
Neither one wanted the other to suffer. And so they found no solution. Escape together was out of the question.
At the try if escape, Lou had discovered a safety barrier that recognized DNA patterns. It would take them a while to find a way through.
When the man came back, the two of them were still fighting. "And decided?" he asked.
Lou pointed at herself with determination even before Ahsoka opened her mouth.
"Well," Ahsoka heard the cold voice from the direction she perceived the even colder signature.
She had long since realized that it pleased him to see her despair. Then she felt panic seep into Lou, and in the next moment, she felt something around her neck.
Lou shook her head in despair. Trying to stop him.
But nothing would work.
Just nothing.
Only a cold laugh was the answer. "And the consequences are to see the other suffering," he told Lou, Ahsoka could literally feel the despair.
Now she was glad Lou was quicker. Not that Ahsoka liked being hurt, but if she could protect Lou, she was okey with it.
Of course, she was scared, too. She could do nothing but sit there with the cold metal around her neck and wait.
All she could see was darkness. With Granré, she could at least see when he was pressing the button.
Now she didn't even have that.
All she could do was wait.
And then, as Lou's desperate attempts were interrupted by a kick, Ahsoka suddenly felt pain leap through her body and tortured screams escaped from her mouth.
This was different than Granré's.
He had used a shock collar that was meant to 'rebuke' the slaves, as he called it.
What now chased electricity through Ahsoka's body was designed to cause her as much pain as possible.
Regardless of whether she was still able to work after that.
When he finally allowed her to breathe, Ahsoka had to lean on the ground to keep from tipping over. Panting, she took a breath.
Even though there was no more electricity running through her body, the pain hadn't gone away completely.
And so it took Ahsoka a moment to realize that the soft whimpering she heard came from herself.
Three or four more times, the man let electricity run through her sore limbs, then he left.
Ahsoka had completely lost orientation. She didn't know which way was up or down until she hit the ground hard. Her breath went by bursts.
Compared to what she had just experienced, the electric stick of a magnah guard seemed like a caress.
Ahsoka still heard a voice that she knew from somewhere calling out to her, then she passed out.
