Chapter 14
It was the first Sunday of December, a bloody cold day. Freezing and chilling temperature. The green and silver scarf around my neck was tight just to keep the cold away. It was after classes and I was waiting for Oliver to do our potions work. I leaned against a column of the hallway, watching the Gryffindor team fly around.
It has been 10 minutes since Oliver said they were going to end in 5. My feet were stone cold and hurting from standing around. I held my books tighter as a gust of wind passed by. My lips were dry and cold, almost flaky. Cold season, sheesh.
After another 15 minutes, the team had finally descended on the ground and started having their closing routine. Oliver quickly jogged towards me, the short ends of his flying around.
"Did you just forget about me?" I sarcastically asked, looking at him rigidly.
"Not exactly," He joked, combing a hand through his hair. "Give me 5 minutes and I'll be back fresher."
I rolled my eyes before nodding. He laughed before jogging back to where his teammates were.
"F 5 minutes!" I shouted, making him look. "You have 2."
He shook his head with a laugh. He left the quad with his broom and high fived one of the twins before leaving. George, I think, looked back at me and winked. I raised an eyebrow, causing Fred and George to laugh. I rolled my eyes and turned to the side, feeling all weird. I was definitely the only Slytherin at this part of the castle.
Soon, Oliver came back. He wasn't wearing his quidditch jersey anymore. He was just in his casual clothes. A dark grey sweater with some pants and his Gryffindor robe. He waved to the twins before walking towards me.
"That was the quickest shower I have ever taken," He commented. He held his hands out and I looked at him, confused. "Books."
"Why?"
"I made you stand in the cold for too long, so I'll take those like a gentleman." He took the books I was carrying from my hands and held it in his own arms. I was about to argue but he looked at me with that judge-face.
"Fine," I mumbled and we started walking in the hallways.
Before we can even go any further, his name was shouted from behind. We both turned around and looked back to the open area. The whole Quidditch team was in a circle with McGonagall standing in front of them. I looked at Oliver and he just shrugged. He walked back to them and I followed him close behind.
"Mister Wood," McGonagall greeted. "I advise that you sit down for this."
"No, it's fine," Oliver said, furrowing his brows.
I stood at his side, realising how awkward my placement was but it was more awkward to just suddenly leave. Plus, I had to make sure he wasn't clutching my books hard that the spine would rip – in fact he was already. I placed my hand on the fingers that were curled around my book, making him look down at me. The knot on his face relaxed and so did the clutch on the book. I took my books from his arms and McGonagall spoke again.
"Very well then," She cleared her throat. She looked at the team and there was gloom in her eyes. "Sadly, the quidditch matches for this year are officially cancelled."
"What?" Oliver practically shouted.
There was a round of gasps and murmurs around the team. Oliver's face screamed for himself. His mouth slightly ajar, his whole face turning red from anger and his eyes were filled with fire. He was going to erupt and I can feel it.
"Yes, Wood," McGonagall answered sternly. "Quidditch matches will not be pushed through, for the pitches are still damaged."
"Fix it with bloody magic," Oliver argued. He started spitting out strings of words that could be heard all throughout the Gryffindor quadrangle. The rest of the team had gotten quiet and Oliver was doing all the talking. Professor McGonagall looked at him like she has gone over this before. Nevertheless, she didn't stop him ranting.
