WARNING: This poem contains an undertone of Domestic Violence and may cause discomfort for some readers who have been in similar situations!

Me and Teddy are here at the table,
Mom's plating up the food,
Dad's talking about something,
Then he changes to his angry mood.

Mom slams the dishes on the table,
Dad shouts and points his finger,
I squeeze and hug into Teddy,
He tells me we better not linger.

I grab an apple and go to my room,
I start eating and sit on my bed,
Dolly tells me Ted wants some too,
"His name is Teddy, not Ted!"

I share my apple with Teddy,
Old bossy Dolly gets none,
She has to be punished,
Spoiling me and teddy's fun.

Me and dolly sit at the mirror,
I comb and brush her hair,
She tells me that it hurts,
I point and say don't you dare!

Mom brings food, face all bruised,
She said she banged into the door,
Mom asked what happened to Dolly,
"Oh, she banged her face on the floor!"

AN: This is only my interpretation of what could go on in the mind of a child living in these and a lot worse situations. Situations I don't want to even think about! Do we really know what lasting effect it has on these innocent lives?
