There was a time in your past,
Once, when you were young,
Everything was so easy back then,
You took on the world and won.

Hopes, dreams, all still in front of you,
In a child's eyes all seemed possible,
Innocent to a life yet unlived,
Blinded by tales of good defeating evil.

Filled with inner light and colour,
Ready to go and achieve your goals,
Undeterred by "why's" and "what if's,"
The world's your oyster, or so they say.

But, as life goes on, things change,
Experiences alter your journey,
Your inner light and colour,
Are subdued by an alternative future.

You begin to get apathetic,
Don't notice opportunities passing by,
Lose all thought of a different path,
Accept the life that was chosen for you!

Time goes by, as time usually does,
Your light dims, your colour fades,
In the back of your mind, a tiny spark,
Still reaching for that elusive, something.
